Mechanism for Network Fracturing in Natural Fractured Reservoir

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
By the methods of in-house experiment and theory analysis, the fracture initiation, stretch and interconnected mechanism of natural fracture is studied in the fracturing process of main fracture and branch fracture extending. The results have shown that, the hydraulic fracture in fractured formation is composed of a few main fractures in large size and

Fracture networks as reactors

2023
Flow and transport in fractures play a central role in a broad range of geochemical and biological reactions involved in water quality, deep microbial life, CO2 sequestration, waste storage, and energy extraction/storage in the subsurface. Fractures are present at all scales and constitute complex flowing networks where dissolved chemical species are ...

Modeling of Hydraulic Fracture Network Propagation in a Naturally Fractured Formation

SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference, 2011
Abstract Hydraulic fracturing in shale gas reservoirs has often resulted in complex fracture network growth, as evidenced by microseismic monitoring. The nature and degree of fracture complexity must be clearly understood to optimize stimulation design and completion strategy.

Shearing of Fracture Networks

60th U.S. Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium
ABSTRACT: Fracture networks often provide the flow paths that are critical to many subsurface engineering applications. Maintaining flow throughout a reservoir’s lifetime requires an understanding of how stress perturbs these networks.

Percolation and permeability of networks of heterogeneous fractures

Physical Review E, 2009
Networks composed by heterogeneous fractures whose local permeability is a binary correlated random field are generated. The percolation and permeability properties of a single heterogeneous fracture are strongly influenced by finite size effects when the correlation length is of the order of the fracture size.

Solid matrix partition by fracture networks

Physical Review E, 2014
The geometrical properties of the matrix blocks formed by a random fracture network are investigated numerically, for a wide range of fracture shapes and for fracture densities ranging from the dilute limit to well above the threshold where the material is entirely partitioned into finite blocks.

Percolation of Fracture Networks and Stereology

2017
The overall properties of fractured porous media such as permeability and transport depend on the percolative character of the fracture network.A very wide range of regular, irregular and random fracture shapes is considered, in monodisperse or polydisperse networks containing fractures with different shapes and/or sizes.

Hierarchical Fracture Networks

2010
During a not-very-scientific search on the Internet for the purposes of the introduction to this chapter, I came up with a few headlines from the French news: “Urban fracture” (Le Monde), “CNE: first scene of rupture in the industrial tribunal” (Liberation) and “Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, the rupture” (Madame Figaro).

Effect of Fracture Permeability on connectivity of fracture networks.

2009
Many open pit mines are located in fractured rock systems where water flow paths are complex and difficult to predict. These flow paths are typically controlled by a small subset of fractures that are permeable and interconnected. Most models of flow in fractured rock systems are based on a network of interconnected fractures that are all assumed to be
