The fracture process zone in mode I fracture emanating from notch and plastic zone size
Materials Today: Proceedings, 2021Abstract In the linear mechanics of fracture from notch, the volumetric approach assumes that the rupture occurs in a cylindrical physical volume. This article highlights the hypothesis of this approach from the experimental results. According to this approach, the area of development of the fracture is characterized by its diameter called the ...

Fracture process zone in cementitious materials
International Journal of Fracture, 1991The current work is directed to the measurement and prediction of the fracture process zone (FPZ) with the compliance method. The method is renovated with a multi-cutting technique. A new compliance curve C p is established while FPZ in a damaged specimen is removed stepwise by saw-cutting.

Strain Field Measurement in Fracture Process Zone
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1990Center‐notched mortar plate specimens are loaded in tension. A multiple sensitivity vector holographic setup is developed to record several deformation stages during the stable crack propagation range. The three‐sensitivity vector setup enables the calculation of both crack opening displacements and strain fields around the crack trajectories. An image

Development of fracture process zones in concrete
Magazine of Concrete Research, 1990Concrete specimens have been tested in uniaxial tension using a closed loop servo-controlled testing machine. The combination of extension control and stiff testing frame has allowed stable failure to be achieved and the full post-peak portion of the load/extension relationship to be obtained.

Process zone fracture criteria for crack tips
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1995Abstract The further development of the local stress, strain or energy density criteria is considered necessary in respect of the crack initiation in a process zone outside the original crack or slit tip. Specific criteria are proposed for brittle and “ductile” crack initiation.

Fracture Process Zone for Mode I Concrete Fracture
1991Moire interferometry was used to record the crack opening displacement along stably growing cracks in single edge-notched (SEN), three-point bend concrete specimens of different tensile strengths. The experimental data was then used to drive a finite element model of the specimen in its generation mode which provided a constant crack closure stress ...

Fracture Process Zone of a Concrete Fracture Specimen
1989For concrete three-point bend specimens Moire interferometry was used to locate the micro-crack tip and to measure the crack opening displacement (COD) along the fracture process zone preceeding that tip. The COD data was used as input to a finite element model which was then executed in its generation mode, to yield crack closure forces along the ...

Fracture process zone in concrete tension specimen
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2000Abstract Experiments were carried out with X-rays using contrast medium and three-dimensional (3D) Acoustic Emission (AE) techniques to investigate the behavior of the fracture process zone in concrete. The results show that, as the loading increases, a zone consisting of numerous microcracks accompanied by AE events develops ahead of the notch tip ...

Modelling of fracture process zones and singularity dominated zones
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1983Abstract Models for fracture process zones and singularity characterizing zones are developed and their interrelation is studied on the basis of two-dimensional stress analysis concepts for brittle materials. Effects of specimen geometry and loading conditions on the stability of fracture initiation and progressive fracturing is investigated and ...

Fracture process zone modeling of monolithic Al2O3
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1999Abstract The crack tip displacement fields obtained from moire interferometry were used interactively to drive a finite element (FE) model of double cantilever beam (DCB), alumina specimens subjected to stable crack growth. Through this inverse analysis, the crack-closure stress (CCS) distribution which provided the best fit between the measured and ...
