Fracture Sealing by Mineral Precipitation: The Role of Surface Heterogeneities on Precipitation-Induced Transport Property Alterations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Fractures are often leakage pathways for fluids through low-permeability rocks that otherwise act as geologic barriers to flow. Flow of fluids that are in chemical disequilibrium with the host rock can lead to mineral precipitation, which reduces ...

Diagnosis and Treatment of an Incomplete Crown-Root Fracture with Intentional Replantation: A Case Report

open access: yesFrontiers in Dentistry, 2022
Acute traumatic injuries to the maxillary incisors may lead to a crown-root fracture. If the fracture is left untreated, the fracture line will propagate and extend apically, resulting in microbial contamination of the attachment apparatus and ...

Effect of immediate pre-endodontic dentin sealing on the fracture strength of endodontically treated teeth: An in vitro study

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dental Research
Objectives: Sodium hypochlorite irrigation adversely affects resin–dentin bonding and may compromise restoration longevity. Immediate pre-endodontic dentin sealing (IPDS) has been proposed to preserve dentin bond integrity before irrigation procedures ...

Simulation‐Based Analysis of Insert Pull‐Out in Nickel‐Polyurethane Hybrid Foams Using CT‐Derived Geometries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
CT‐based finite element simulations combined with in situ X‐ray computed tomography are used to analyze insert pull‐out in nickel‐coated polymer foams. Despite variations in material parameters, deformation consistently concentrates within a narrow annular region around the insert.

Fabrication Routes for Ionic Conducting Fiber Strain Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conducting fiber strain sensors (ICFSs) offer compliant, textile‐integrable sensing. Thus far, the commercialization of ICFSs has been constrained by fiber fabrication routes. This review provides a fabrication‐centric analysis of ICFSs correlating processing strategies with material properties and scalability.

Characterizing permeability evolution during self-sealing in kaolinite mudrocks using a bi-exponential model

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geo-Engineering
Fracture self-sealing in clay-rich mudrocks plays an important role in controlling fluid migration in subsurface engineering and geoenergy applications, yet the factors governing permeability reduction remain difficult to quantify in a unified manner. In
