Fracture strength of human gallstones
Journal of Materials Science Letters, 1991Extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is currently being evaluated as a treatment for symptomatic gallstones in the USA. It was first used to treat kidney stones in humans approximately 10 years ago, and now 85% of all kidney stones can be treated with this method [1].

Fracture Strength of Polycrystalline Silicon
MRS Proceedings, 1998AbstractA structure has been developed to measure the fracture strength of thin films that allows for a large amount of statistical data to be generated from a single die. The strength of a material is determined by measuring the displacement at fracture of cantilever beams bending in-plane.

Monotonic Strength and Fracture
1998In this chapter we describe the monotonic strength and fracture behavior of fiber reinforced composites at ambient temperatures. The term monotonic behavior means behavior under an applied stress that increases in one direction, i.e., not a cyclic loading condition.

Fracture‐Strength Anisotropy of Sapphire
Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1976At 22°C, the bend strength of as‐ground sapphire bars with different orientations of tensile surface and tensile axis varies from 4×10 4 to 12×10 4 psi as a result of the anisotropies of machining damage and fracture energy.

Strength and fracture in strong glasses
Philosophical Magazine B, 2002Abstract The technological relevance of structural glasses has led to increased efforts to resolve structures and to gain insight into the structure-properties relationship that can be exploited for the design of new materials. During the past few years, there have been a large number of computer simulations to model amorphous structures and to study ...
