Nonlinear flow in pores of rough fractured surfaces
Physics of FluidsMutual contact disturbance of fracture surfaces under stress effects can affect gas storage and transportation. Studying the influence of effective stress on the contact ratio variation and nonlinear seepage characteristics of multi-roughness gradient fracture surfaces can provide theoretical support for reservoir seepage capacity evaluation and ...

Quantitative analysis of fracture surface by roughness and fractal method
Scripta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1995In recent years there has been extensive research and great development in Quantitative Fractography, which acts as an integral part of fractographic analysis. A prominent technique for studying the fracture surface is based on fracture profile generation and the major means for characterizing the profile quantitatively are roughness and fractal ...

Roughness of soil fracture surfaces as a measure of soil microstructure
Journal of Soil Science, 1990SUMMARY The examination of soil fracture surfaces that are created under tensile stress may reveal a great deal about the internal structural condition of the soil. A simple technique for quantifying the roughness of soil fracture surfaces from a measurement of their topography in cross‐section is described.

Studies on the behavior of the roughness of the fracture surfaces of silica glass
Materials Letters, 1993Abstract Roughness of the fracture surfaces of silica glass samples subjected to thermal treatments under an oxygen-enriched atmosphere was measured by using a fractal-like approach. The results show a clear dependence of the type of treatment upon the resulting fractal dimension. An atomistic model for this phenomenon is proposed.

The effect of anisotropic surface roughness on flow and transport in fractures
Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1991The topography of natural fracture surfaces has a strong influence on the flow and transport properties of fractures. In this paper we investigate the role of anisotropic surface roughness on fluid flow, solute transport, and electrical current flow in fractures.

Roughness indices determination for fracture surfaces in Luxemburg Sandstone
2020This study is a computation of fracture roughness indices for a series of subvertical joints and faults in 'Luxemburg Sandstone' rock mass within a well-identified geological context complemented by general description of the sandstone, combining on-site work and rock mechanics lab testing.

Roughness of silica glass sub-critical fracture surfaces
2012We study the roughness properties of fracture surfaces obtained by sub-critical fracture of silica glass in a double-cleavage-drilled-compression (DCDC) setup under controlled velocity, stress intensity factor and relative humidity. We extract the topography of these surfaces using an atomic force microscope and study their roughness properties using ...
