Fast Prototyping and Ex Vivo Evaluation of Dissolvable Millineedle Patches Made by Solvent Casting from CO2 Laser Ablated Elastomer Molds

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
CO2 laser ablation, a fast, inexpensive, and reproducible method, is used to create flexible elastomer molds with millimeter‐long cavities for the fabrication of dissolvable polymer needles. Made from PVP, these milli‐needles achieve ≈560 µm penetration into porcine skin, demonstrating their potential for effective transdermal drug delivery.

Columnar grain boundaries are the weakest link in hard coatings: Insights from micro-cantilever testing with bridge notches [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The effect of columnar grain boundaries on the fracture toughness was investigated using micro-cantilever fracture testing with a bridge notch, and a unique hard coating consisting of two distinct microstructures: one with columnar grains and another with an epitaxial layer.

Durable Low‐Interfacial Toughness PDMS/SiO2 Coatings with Superior Anti‐Icing and Large‐Scale Deicing Performance in the Natural Field

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Low‐interfacial toughness PDMS/SiO2 coatings are applied to aluminum substrates and tested under natural high‐altitude conditions. The coatings demonstrate strong anti‐icing, icephobic, and large‐scale deicing performance. Field results highlight delayed freezing, reduced ice adhesion, and stable durability, offering practical insights into the use of ...

Enhancing Ceramic Structural and Interfacial Properties via Micro‐Patterning and Macro‐Architectural Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study investigates how laser‐micromachined patterns enhance the interfacial and mechanical properties of bioinspired ceramic composites. The ±45° micro‐pattern significantly improved interfacial bonding and damage dissipation energy by 107%, while integrating micro‐ and macro‐designs increased energy absorption by 60%.
