Dynamic Fracture in Disordered Media
MRS Bulletin, 2000While it is possible to carry out fracture experiments in single crystals, in everyday experience fracture occurs in heterogeneous and often disordered materials. Tear a piece of paper, and the resulting ragged edge shows evidence of the local variation in the paper's mechanical properties.

Fracture in Viscoelastic Media
1967This chapter discusses the analytical extension of Griffith’s work to linearly viscoelastic materials. Through consideration of the simple case of a spherical flaw loaded by hydrostatic tension, it is found that the crack initiation criterion depends on the loading history. The chapter concludes with some remarks on fatigue fracture in elastomers.

Well Logging in Fractured Media
2020This chapter provides an overview of well logging in carbonate formations from the perspective of CO2 sequestration projects. The chapter begins with a summary of the various types of logs such as gamma ray, neutron porosity, bulk density, resistivity, photoelectric, sonic, pulsed neutron capture, nuclear magnetic resonance, image log, and elemental ...

Elastic fracture in driven media
Physica B: Condensed Matter, 2000Fracture as one of the mechanical properties of materials is structurally dependent. Defects, defect assemblies, grain boundaries and sub-boundaries materials, modify the local stress intensity factors intensively. Brittle fracture prefers to confine itself to the grain boundary where the specific surface energy is lower than that in the grain.

Permeability of fractured porous media
ECMOR VII - 7th European Conference on the Mathematics of Oil Recovery, 2000Flow in fractured porous media was first investigated by Barenblatt and Zheltov (1960) and Barenblatt et al. (1960) by means of the double porosity model. A direct and complete solution of the flow in such media is given in this paper. Some preliminary results are presented and discussed; they show the importance of the percolation threshold of the ...

Anisotropie Permeability of Fractured Media
Water Resources Research, 1969The mathematical equivalents of parallel plate openings are used to simulate real fractures dispersed in orientation, distributed in aperture, and of arbitrary spacing. With this idealization of jointed pervious rock, the discharge of each conductor is a second rank tensor proportional to the cube of aperture and to the projection of a hydraulic ...
