Oil emulsions in naturally fractured Porous Media

open access: yesPetroleum, 2019
Most of the studies regarding the formation and stability of emulsions focus on the conditioning and management of crude oil on surface facilities. Since a great deal of the crude oil produced is in the form of stable emulsions, it is often claimed that ...

A multiscale flux basis for mortar mixed discretizations of reduced Darcy-Forchheimer fracture models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper, a multiscale flux basis algorithm is developed to efficiently solve a flow problem in fractured porous media. Here, we take into account a mixed-dimensional setting of the discrete fracture matrix model, where the fracture network is ...

Seismic attenuation in fractured media

open access: yesJournal of Geophysics and Engineering, 2014
The prime objective of this paper is to quantitatively estimate seismic attenuation caused by fractures with different physical parameters. In seismic wave simulation, the fractured media are treated as the anisotropic media and fractures are represented by frequency-dependent elastic constants.

Multifunctional Crushing and Piezoresistive Self‐Sensing in Conductive Epoxy/CNT‐Coated Polyetherimide TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports lightweight polyetherimide triply periodic minimal surfaces lattices coated with carbon nanotube‐reinforced epoxy that combine mechanical robustness with self‐sensing. The conformal coating enhances stiffness, strength and energy absorption while enabling reliable strain monitoring.

Dual virtual element method in presence of an inclusion

open access: yes, 2017
We consider a Darcy problem for saturated porous media written in dual formulation in presence of a fully immersed inclusion. The lowest order virtual element method is employ to derive the discrete approximation.

Changes in hydrodynamic, structural and geochemical properties in carbonate rock samples due to reactive transport [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Reactive transport plays an important role in the development of a wide range of both anthropic and natural processes affecting geological media. To predict the consequences of reactive transport processes on structural and hydrodynamic properties of a ...

Channel model of flow through fractured media [PDF]

open access: yesWater Resources Research, 1987
On the basis of a review of recent theoretical and experimental studies of flow through fractured rocks, we have studied the fluid flow and solute transport in a tight fractured medium in terms of flow through channels of variable aperture. The channels are characterized by an aperture density distribution and a spatial correlation length.

Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.
