Structural Power Composites Based on High Mass Loading Zn‐Ion Hybrid Supercapacitors with Metal Mesh Current Collectors and Aramid Nanofiber/Glass Fiber Composite Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional structural power composite is developed by integrating high‐mass‐loading Zn‐ion hybrid supercapacitors with metal mesh current collectors and aramid nanofiber‐based composite electrolytes, enabling simultaneous load‐bearing capability and enhanced areal energy storage.

Poroelastic Response of Orthotropic Fractured Porous Media [PDF]

open access: yesTransport in Porous Media, 2011
Poroelastic response of orthotropic fractured porous media James G. Berryman Abstract An algorithm is presented for inverting either laboratory or field poroelastic data for all the drained constants of an anisotropic (specifically orthotropic) fractured poroelastic system.

Tough and Skin‐Free Porous Polyelectrolyte Complex Hydrogels via Salt‐Induced Aqueous Phase Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling counterion exchange rate during aqueous phase separation enables the formation of skin‐free, homogeneously porous polyelectrolyte complex hydrogels by suppressing kinetically trapped skin layers and macrovoids. The resulting hydrogel networks exhibit exceptional toughness (∼15 MJ·m−3) and enable 3D (bio)printing and post‐functionalization ...

Complex Electrical Conductivity of a Single‐Fractured Rock: Fracture‐and‐Matrix Coupling Mechanism and Aperture Size Predictions

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Fractured rocks play a crucial role in myriad natural and engineered systems, including Earth's critical zone, oil/gas/geothermal reservoirs, and geological CO2/H2/waste storage systems.

Multiscale Time-Splitting Strategy for Multiscale Multiphysics Processes of Two-Phase Flow in Fractured Media

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2011
The temporal discretization scheme is one important ingredient of efficient simulator for two-phase flow in the fractured porous media. The application of single-scale temporal scheme is restricted by the rapid changes of the pressure and saturation in ...

Multifunctional Solid Polymer Electrolyte Films Integrating Intrinsic Self‐Healing and Dual Photo‐/pH‐Responsive Ionic Sensing for Intelligent Flexible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multifunctional solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) films integrating intrinsic self‐healing, mechanical stretchability, and dual photo‐ and pH‐responsive ionic conductivity are developed. Constructed from thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and hydrogen‐bonded poly(thiourea triethylene glycol) (PTUEG3), these films form a dynamic supramolecular network ...

Flow in Fractured Porous Media Modeled in Closed-Form: Augmentation of Prior Solution and Side-Stepping Inconvenient Branch Cut Locations

open access: yesFluids, 2020
Carefully chosen complex variable formulations can solve flow in fractured porous media. Such a calculus approach is attractive, because the gridless method allows for fast, high-resolution model results.

Two-Phase Flow Through Fractured Porous Media

open access: yesECMOR VIII - 8th European Conference on the Mathematics of Oil Recovery, 2002
Two-phase flow in fractured porous media is investigated by means of a direct and complete numerical solution of the generalized Darcy equations in a three-dimensional discrete fracture description. The numerical model applies to arbitrary fracture network geometry, and to arbitrary distributions of permeabilities in the porous matrix and in the ...

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.
