Compression Fixation of Bennett's Fracture
Acta Orthopaedica Scandinavica, 1977A procedure that ensures exact reduction and internal fixation of Bennett's fracture is presented. In cases with a large tubercular fragment, the internal fixation is performed with a lag-screw technique. If the fragment is small, a Kirschner wire is used as an implant. A special set of instruments that keeps the reduced fragment in position and guides

Brittle fracture in compression
International Journal of Fracture, 1974The initiation and propagation of microfractures and their contribution to material failure in compression are examined. The early part of the fracture process, the lateral and the axial yield points of the stress-strain curves, are identified with the onset of microfracture, respectively at the tensile and the compressive stress concentrations of the ...

Brittle fracture in compression
International Journal of Fracture Mechanics, 1972The apparent paradox of two theories of fracture depending on whether the applied load is tensile or compressive is resolved. Although in compression, fracture seems to occur when the maximum tensile stress around a hole reaches a critical value it is suggested that fracture occurs when the crack extension force at the tip of a microcrack in the ...
