Hydraulic fracturing in ice boreholes: Theory and tests

open access: yes, 2019
Hydraulic fracturing is the well-known phenomenon that can occur intentionally, as it is used in the petroleum industry to stimulate the flow of natural gas or oil, or naturally, for example, as a reason for calving of ice shelves.

Gallium Microalloying in Bi–Sn Solders: Interfacial Phase Formation, Wettability, and Long‐Term Shear Reliability Under Isothermal Aging

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Gallium microalloying redirects interfacial reactions in low‐temperature Bi–Sn solders from Cu–Sn toward Cu–Ga intermetallic formation. The resulting Cu–Ga layer suppresses intermetallic growth during thermal aging, alters fracture pathways, and improves interfacial stability.

Fracturing Fluid Components [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The materials and chemistry used to manufacture hydraulic fracture fluids are often confus‐ ing and difficult for the practicing hydraulic fracturing engineer to understand and opti‐ mize. Many times the failure of a particular fracturing treatment is blamed on the fluid because that is a major unknown from the design engineer's viewpoint.

Fracturing Fluid Characterization Facility (FFCF): Recent advances [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The objectives of this project are: (1)Investigate fluid rheological behavior, dynamic fluid leak-off behavior, and proppant transport characteristics of various fracturing fluids used for stimulating oil and gas bearing formations.

Morphology, Transport, and Dynamics of Protein Adsorption in Open‐Cell Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stainless steel (SS) open‐cell foams are shown to adsorb more protein per unit area than previously reported 316L SS and chromium oxide surfaces under static and flow conditions. An integrated approach combining 3D pore imaging, flow simulation, and protein adsorption experiments characterizes the foam’s performance.

Feasibility and Limitations of the Advanced Replica Process for Bioactive Glasses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Periodic 3D‐printed Kelvin‐cell templates enable a controlled advanced replica process for fabricating highly porous glass lattices. Across P45K9, 45S5, and 13–93, material‐dependent differences in coating, burnout, and shrinkage lead to distinct strut morphologies, while comparable final porosities of 83%–88% are retained.

Research on Property of Multicomponent Thickening Water Fracturing Fluid and Application in Low Permeability Oil Reservoirs

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2018
The clean fracturing fluid, thickening water, is a new technology product, which promotes the advantages of clean fracturing fluid to the greatest extent and makes up for the deficiency of clean fracturing fluid.

Development of a three-dimensional compositional hydraulic fracturing simulator for energized fluids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
textCurrent practices in energized treatments, using gases and foams, remain rudimentary in comparison to other fracturing fluid technologies. None of the available 3D fracturing models for incompressible water-based fluids have been able to capture the ...
