Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Assessment Of Structure-Specific Seismic Fragility Curves Of Buildings Using Spo2frag [PDF]
Malaysia is under the menace of earthquake event. Despite its weakness in resisting seismic excitation, soft storey building still gains its popularity due to the functional and aesthetic purpose, which has always been the preference for hotelier and ...

Development of Seismic Fragility Curve for Railway Tunnel Crossing Fracture Zone
This study investigates the seismic fragility of railway tunnels intersecting fractured geological zones using a nonlinear numerical approach. A series of dynamic analyses was performed on tunnel models subjected to multiple ground motions with varying ...

Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Risk-targeted seismic hazard model for the Philippines
The Philippines' current seismic design framework, grounded in outdated uniform hazard approaches, fails to ensure consistent structural safety due to regional variations in seismic risk and structural fragility. This study aims to develop the first risk-

We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Computation of Seismic Fragility Curves Using Artificial Neural Network Metamodels
International audienceIn earthquake engineering, the fragility curve is defined as the conditional probability of failure of a structure, or its critical components, at given values of seismic intensity measures (IMs).
