Can Elastomers Combine Stiffness, Toughness and Fatigue Resistance?

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review studies how the molecular and macroscopic architecture of elastomers influence their mechanical properties including: stiffness, stretchability, toughness, fatigue resistance, and damping behavior. By linking the structure to performance, it proposes design principles for advanced elastomeric systems that combine mechanical properties ...

Association of frailty with fragility fractures and all‑cause mortality in adults: evidence from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders
Background Fragility fractures impose a substantial global public health burden, driven by diminished bone strength and extrinsic risk factors. Frailty, characterized by multisystem decline and reduced physiological reserve, is increasingly recognized as

Hybrid Amyloid–Boron Nitride Aerogels for Lightweight Sound Insulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Amyloid fibrils template the mild formation of boron nitride–rich hybrid aerogels with hierarchical porosity, enhanced BN‐like ordering, and fibril‐reinforced mechanics. These ultralight materials combine thermal stability with strong sound absorption and transmission loss, offering a sustainable bio‐assisted route toward lightweight acoustic shields ...

High‐Performance Bio‐Glue From the Berries of a Parasitic Plant

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report a fully bio‐based adhesive derived primarily from a (poly)saccharide extract obtained from the berries of the hemi‐parasitic plant mistletoe (Viscum album), supplemented with tannic and malic acid without any further chemical functionalization.
