The science behind soft skills: Do’s and Don’ts for early career researchers and beyond. A review paper from the EU-CardioRNA COST Action CA17129 [version 2; peer review: 1 approved, 2 approved with reservations]

open access: yesOpen Research Europe, 2023
Soft skills are the elementary management, personal, and interpersonal abilities that are vital for an individual to be efficient at workplace or in their personal life. Each work place requires different set of soft skills.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The non-community of Somali migrants in Milan (Italy): The analysis of a “situation”

open access: yesAnuac
The article builds on the concept of “situation”, derived from the contribution of Georges Balandier, as an instrument to frame the representations and practices of solidarity and social networking of Somali migrants in Milan, Italy, both historically ...

Fields, networks and frames: advertising social organization in Japan

open access: yesGlobal Networks, 2003
Abstract In this article I focus on three kinds of overlapping social coordinates — fields, networks and frames — as they are worked out in the day‐to‐day activities of a large Tokyo advertising agency. My aims are threefold. First, to show how the three social forms of fields, networks and frames interlock in a dialectical manner that permits both ...

Frame Optimization using Neural Network

open access: yesInternational Journal on Advanced Science, Engineering and Information Technology, 2012
The development of Neural-network (NN) technology stemmed from the desire to create an artificial system that could perform “intelligent” tasks similar to those performed by the human brain. In this paper the performance of NN to the structural optimization concept of frame structure is presented.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A Survey on Industrial Internet With ISA100 Wireless

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
We present a detailed survey of the literature on the ISA100 Wireless industrial Internet standard (also known as ISA100.11a or IEC 62734). ISA100 Wireless is the IEEE 802.15.4-compatible wireless networking standard “Wireless Systems for ...
