Video acceptability and frame rate

IEEE Multimedia, 1995
The advantage of degrading the QoS of a multimedia session is that it reduces the network bandwidth required for distributed multimedia applications, increasing the number of users that a multimedia server can support concurrently. Experimentation shows that users perceive a reduced frame rate for a continuous-media stream differently, depending on the

Frame Cache Management for Multi-frame Rate Systems

2012
Multi-frame rate systems decouple viewing from rendering in an asynchronous pipeline. Multiple GPUs can be used as frame sources, while a primary GPU is responsible for viewing and display update. Conventionally, the last rendering result is used for display.

Perspectives, frame rates and resolutions

Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Foundations of Digital Games, 2009
Hardware and platform limitations restrict the display settings for most computer games, forcing a tradeoff between frame rate and resolution to achieve acceptable performance. Previous work has explored the effects of frame rate and/or resolution on a variety of multimedia applications, but most of these are less interactive than typical computer ...

Optimized frame selection for variable frame rate synthesis

ICASSP '82. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005
In LPC voice output systems, memory requirements can be reduced if the parameter curves are replaced by straight-line trains and only the parameter sets at the segment boundaries are stored. In this paper an optimization algorithm is described, which for a given number of segment boundaries and a given error criterion calculates the optimal positions ...

Frame rate preferences in low bit rate video

Proceedings 2003 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. No.03CH37429), 2004
A double stimulus subjective evaluation was performed to determine preferred frame rates at a fixed bit rate for low bit rate video. Stimuli consisted of eight reference color video sequences of size 352/spl times/240 pixels. These were compressed at rates of 100, 200 and 300 kbps for low, medium, and high motion sequences, respectively, using three ...

Theoretical model of relationship between frame-rate and bit-rate for encoding high frame-rate video signal

IEEE International Conference on Image Processing 2005, 2005
Higher frame-rates are being considered to achieve more realistic representations. Since increasing the frame-rate increases the total amount of information, efficient coding methods are required. However, its statistical properties are not clarified.

Kilohertz Frame Rate MOSLM Operation

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
This paper presents a description of the Litton/Semetex magneto-optic spatial light modulator (MOSLM) switching characteristics and a drive design approach to achieve high frame rates. This drive approach minimizes MOSLM write power and provides higher operating current margins than standard drive approaches at all frame rates.

High Frame Rate Egomotion Estimation

2013
In this paper, we present an algorithm for doing high frame rate egomotion estimation. We achieve this by using a basis flow model, along with a novel inference algorithm, that uses spatio-temporal gradients, foregoing the computation of the slow and noisy optical flow.
