Frame Rate Up Conversion Based on Variational Image Fusion

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2014
This paper presents a new framework for motion compensated frame rate up conversion (FRUC) based on variational image fusion. The proposed algorithm consists of two steps: 1) generation of multiple intermediate interpolated frames and 2) fusion of those intermediate frames.

Motion Compensated Frame Rate Up-Conversion for Low Frame Rate Video

2006
Frame rate up-conversion is useful for low frame rate pictures such as movie. In case of conversion, basic motion compensation causes gap at covered area and uncovered area. To avoid the gap, we propose the motion compensation centered at the position of target. Fully motion compensated interpolation is possible in this method.

Occlusion artifact removal in video frame rate up-conversion

2009 IEEE 17th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference, 2009
In the past, frame rate up-conversion (FRC) methods were commonly used in standards conversion. Today, FRC methods are used for digital video temporal resolution enhancement to improve the visual quality in large screen LCD and plasma TV sets. The increase in processing power of DSPs, FPGAs and ASICs enables high complexity algorithms in the design of ...

Enhanced Ctu-Level Inter Prediction with Deep Frame Rate Up-Conversion for High Efficiency Video Coding

International Conference on Information Photonics, 2018
Inter prediction serves as the foundation of prediction based hybrid video coding framework. The state-of-the-art video coding standards employ the reconstructed frames as the references, and the motion vectors which convey the relative position shift ...

Motion vector processing for frame rate up conversion

2004 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2004
In this paper, the effect of motion vector accuracy on the efficiency of motion compensated frame rate up conversion (MC-FRUC) is studied. The motion vector processing problem is formulated and analyzed via motion vector modelling. A processing scheme is proposed to improve the interpolated frame quality at the decoder.

Frame rate up-conversion using the wavelet transform

2000 Digest of Technical Papers. International Conference on Consumer Electronics. Nineteenth in the Series (Cat. No.00CH37102), 2002
We propose a new frame rate upconversion algorithm using the wavelet transform. In the proposed scheme, motion estimation is performed using the information in the wavelet-transformed subbands. In addition, an effective compensation method for the occlusion areas, called overcompensation, is presented.

Novel Integration of Frame Rate Up Conversion and HEVC Coding Based on Rate-Distortion Optimization

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2018
Frame rate up conversion (FRUC) can improve the visual quality by interpolating new intermediate frames. However, high frame rate videos by FRUC are confronted with more bitrate consumption or annoying artifacts of interpolated frames.

Dual Motion Estimation for Frame Rate Up-Conversion

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, 2010
In this letter, we present a new motion estimation algorithm for frame rate up-conversion. The proposed dual motion estimation algorithm enhances the estimation accuracy of motion vectors by using the unidirectional and bidirectional matching ratios of blocks in the previous and current frames.

Frame rate up-conversion with nonlinear temporal interpolation

2012 5th International Congress on Image and Signal Processing, 2012
Motion compensated frame rate up-conversion (MCFRUC) partly resolves some of the issues in video interpolation such as blurred images resulting from incorrect linear motion interpolation and motion jerkiness caused by frame repetition. Most of the block artifacts and incorrect interpolated frames are caused by linear-motion-based FRUC.

Robust video frame rate up-conversion (FRUC) techniques

2009 Digest of Technical Papers International Conference on Consumer Electronics, 2009
Two challenging situations for video frame rate up-conversion (FRUC) are first identified; namely, when the input video has abrupt illumination change and/or a low frame rate. Then, a low-complexity robust FRUC algorithm is proposed to address these two issues.
