Understanding Atrial Fibrillation Complexity Through the Lens of Turbulence Dynamics: Implications for Treatment Strategies

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia encountered in clinical practice. Its incidence increases significantly with age and has become a major global public health issue. Although research into the mechanisms of AF has spanned over a century‐ranging from the reentry theory to the rotor hypothesis‐none of these

Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) Q192R genotypes and their interaction with smoking strongly increase atherogenicity and the Framingham risk score

open access: yesArchives of Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2016
Objective Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) polymorphisms are associated with an increased susceptibility to cardiovascular disease. PON1 Q192R polymorphism (rs662) partially determine PON1 hydrolytic activity and protect against oxidation of LDL and HDL. This study

The “Reducing Inflammation for Greater Health Trial (RIGHT)” Study—Concept, Rationale, and Design

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Reducing Inflammation for Greater Health Trial's (RIGHT) study is a single‐center, randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial designed to test whether clazkizumab, an interleukin‐6 (IL‐6) inhibitor, can improve or slow decline in physical, cognitive, and vascular function in older adults, when compared to a placebo.

Predicting cognitive decline: a dementia risk score vs. the Framingham vascular risk scores.

open access: yes, 2013
Our aim was to compare 2 Framingham vascular risk scores with a dementia risk score in relation to 10-year cognitive decline in late middle age. Participants were men and women with mean age of 55.6 years at baseline, from the Whitehall II study, a longitudinal British cohort study.

Severe Periodontitis is Associated With Recurrent Cardiovascular Events—A 10‐Year Longitudinal Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
One thousand and two patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) were observed over 10 years. Data were collected from 792 study participants. Severe periodontitis proved to be an independent risk factor for new cardiovascular events. Tooth brushing more than once a day and performing interdental hygiene were associated with decreased risk.

Application of the Updated Framingham Risk Score to Japanese Men.

open access: yesHypertension Research, 2001
Few tools for risk assessment of coronary heart disease (CHD) have yet been made available in Japan. This study aims to examine the validity of the updated Framingham risk score as applied to a Japanese male population. Using the annual health examination database of a Japanese company, we followed-up 5,611 male subjects, aged 30 to 59 years, who had ...
