Fatigue Crack Growth Prediction in a Nickel-Base Superalloy Under Spectrum Loads Using FRANC3D

open access: yesTransactions of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, 2021
In this study, the fatigue crack growth behavior in an aero-engine material under a standard spectrum load sequence was predicted using FRANC3D and compared with available experimental results. Finite-element model of a compact tension (CT) specimen of GTM720 nickel-base superalloy was created using HYPERMESH pre-processor and an initial through ...

Fracture Analysis of a First Stage Turbine Blade by FRANC3D

open access: yesKey Engineering Materials, 2011
The premature failure of a blade occurred after a service life of 8127 EOH operation houre. This paper presents the fracture analysis of the first stage blade through fractographic and mechanical analysis. Crack growth mechanisms were evaluated based on the microscopic observations of the fracture surfaces by SEM.

A numerical analysis for cracks emanating from a surface semi-spherical cavity in an infinite elastic body by FRANC3D

Engineering Failure Analysis, 2008
Abstract This note is specifically concerned with cracks emanating from a surface semi-spherical cavity in an infinite body (see Fig. 1 ) by using the boundary element software FRANC3D developed by a fracture mechanics investigation group of Cornell University.
