Women mathematicians in France in the mid-twentieth century [PDF]
An account of the careers of the five women who completed a doctorate in mathematics in France before 1960 and became internationally known scientists, followed by a more general description of the place of women on the mathematical scene in France between 1930 and 1960.

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Blind separation of noisy Gaussian stationary sources. Application to cosmic microwave background imaging [PDF]
We present a new source separation method which maximizes the likelihood of a model of noisy mixtures of stationary, possibly Gaussian, independent components. The method has been devised to address the problem of imaging CMB anisotropies. It works in the spectral domain where, thanks to two simple approximations, the likelihood assumes a simple form ...

Influenza D Virus in Cattle, France, 2011–2014
A new influenza virus, genus D, isolated in US pigs and cattle, has also been circulating in cattle in France. It was first identified there in 2011, and an increase was detected in 2014.

Spitzer Mapping of PAHs and H2 in Photodissociation Regions
The mid-infrared (MIR) spectra of dense photodissociation regions (PDRs) are typically dominated by emission from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and the lowest pure rotational states of molecular hydrogen (H2); two species which are probes of ...

Rapid variability of the kHz-QPO frequency in 4U1608-52 [PDF]
We investigate the variability of the QPO frequency in 4U1608-52 on very short time scales of a few seconds. We detect changes in frequency as fast as 0.5 Hz/s, which is more than ten times the fastest change reported for this object. Using a structure function analysis, we are able to detect variability on time scales as short as ~4 seconds. We do not
