Numerical analysis of solid–liquidtwo-phase turbulent flow in Francis turbine runner with splitter bladesin sandy water

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2015
As the key component of a hydroelectric power generation system, hydraulic turbine plays a decisive role in the overall performance of the system. There are many sandy rivers in the world, and turbines working in these rivers are seriously damaged ...

Comparative Numerical Studies for the Flow Energy Dissipation Features in a Vertical Two‐Stage Centrifugal Pump in Pump and Turbine Conditions

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 2, Page 764-779, February 2026.
Based on entropy theory, this study presents a comparative numerical analysis of the flow energy dissipation (FED) in a VTSP under two distinct operating conditions: pump condition and turbine condition, both characterized by relatively high hydraulic efficiencies of 88.9% and 87.4%, respectively. In pump condition, the highest FED production occurs in

Advanced design and optimization of wind turbines based on turbine theories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A review of wind turbine technology showed that many flaws in both the flow models and computations are involved in the traditional fundamentals. While traditional methods for design and computation are all based on the airfoil theory, a new method based

Understanding the Role of pH Regulation and Neutralizing Agents in Organic Acid Production and Growth of Aspergillus oryzae

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 123, Issue 1, Page 116-133, January 2026.
We show that pH and neutralization strategy strongly influence the growth, pellet morphology, and organic acid production of Aspergillus oryzae. Acidic and alkaline conditions lead to hairy, dispersed pellets, while near‐neutral environments favour compact pellet formation.

A Comprehensive Characteristic Modeling Method for Francis Turbine Based on Image Digitization and RBF Neural Network

open access: yesEnergies
Establishing a mathematical model of a Francis turbine is the foundation for the simulation of hydropower station operation and is of great significance for the analysis of the hydropower station’s transient process.

Structural health monitoring for wind turbine foundations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The construction of onshore wind turbines has rapidly been increasing as the UK attempts to meet its renewable energy targets. As the UK’s future energy depends more on wind farms, safety and security are critical to the success of this renewable energy ...

Toward the Development of a Uranium‐Based Redox‐Flow Battery

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2026.
The first all‐uranium‐based electrochemical cell has been realized using simple [UIV/V(tBuacac)4]0/+ and [UIII/IV(N(SiMe3)2)4]–/0 complexes, readily available in convenient, scalable syntheses, as anolyte and catholyte couples. Operating at a cell potential of 2.2 V with a projected energy density of 0.357 Wh kg–1, this system establishes a foundation ...

Diagnostics and prognostics utilising dynamic Bayesian networks applied to a wind turbine gearbox [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The UK has the largest installed capacity of offshore wind and this is set to increase significantly in future years. The difficulty in conducting maintenance offshore leads to increased operation and maintenance costs compared to onshore but with better

At the intersection of soundscapes and roads: Quantifying anthrophony's influence on wildlife crossing structure use

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Anthropogenic noise (anthrophony) can have significant negative effects on wildlife, causing both physiological (i.e., increased stress hormone production) and behavioral (i.e., altered anti‐predator behaviors, space use, or diel activity) changes in individuals.
