Abstract Franz Schubert (1797-1828) was born in Vienna of immigrant parents. During his short life, brought to an end by syphilis at the age of 31, he produced an astonishing amount of music. Symphonies, chamber music, opera, church music, and songs (more than 600 of them) poured forth in profusion.
