Crinoid and ostracod succession within the Early-Middle Frasnian interval in the Wietrznia Quarry, Holy Cross Mountains, Poland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Early-Middle Frasnian ostracods and crinoids from Wietrznia in the Northern Kielce subregion of the Holy Cross area were analyzed. Twenty three ostracod species assigned to thirteen named genera, as well as eighteen crinoid species including the ...

Method of estimating sea‐surface paleotemperatures through biotic proxies: A case study in Upper Paleozoic paleoclimatic, paleogeographic and paleotectonic reconstructions of Siberia

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2024.
This study introduces a novel approach for quantitatively assessing sea‐surface paleotemperatures examined in the Upper Paleozoic of Siberia. The method relies on evaluating the taxonomic composition of biota. It utilizes a comprehensive dataset encompassing the geographic distribution and ecology of various biotic groups in Siberia and adjacent ...

How to engineer a habitable planet: the rise of marine ecosystem engineers through the Phanerozoic

open access: yesPalaeontology, Volume 67, Issue 5, September/October 2024.
Abstract Ecosystem engineers are organisms that modify their physical habitats in a way that alters resource availability and the structure of the communities they live in. The evolution of ecosystem engineers over the course of Earth history has thus been suggested to have been a driver of macroevolutionary and macroecological changes that are ...

A critical interval in blastoid evolution: the respiratory transition and palaeogeographic dispersion of the spiraculate blastoids in the Devonian

open access: yesPapers in Palaeontology, Volume 10, Issue 4, July/August 2024.
Abstract Blastoids underwent a revolution in respiration in the Devonian. Emsian blastoid faunas were dominated by fissiculates such as Pentremitidea, giving rise to a transitional spiraculate, Conuloblastus. Hyperoblastus and a mosaic of spiraculates followed; they featured a more advanced respiratory system and were dominant until the Permian.

Devonian strata of the Southern Timan: paleomagnetic data [PDF]

open access: yesНефтегазовая геология: Теория и практика
New paleomagnetic determinations are presented based on a reconnaissance collection of rocks of the Frasnian and Famennian stages of the Upper Devonian, selected on the river Ukhta and river Izhma.

UPPER FRASNIAN (UPPER DEVONIAN) POLYGNATHUS AND ICRIODUS CONODONTS FROM THE BAHRAM FORMATION, HUR SECTION, KERMAN PROVINCE, SOUTHEASTERN IRAN

open access: yesRivista Italiana di Paleontologia e Stratigrafia, 2012
Conodont fauna from the Upper Devonian (Frasnian) Bahram Formation at the Hur section, north of Kerman, southeast Iran, is dominated by species of Icriodus and Polygnathus. This fauna allowed discrimination of two biointervals from the Lower rhenana Zone

Late Frasnian mass extinction: Conodont event stratigraphy, global changes, and possible causes [PDF]

open access: yes
Several abrupt changes in conodont biofacies are documented to occur synchronously at six primary control sections across the Frasnian-Famennian boundary in Euramerica. These changes occurred within a time-span of only about 100,000 years near the end of
