Abstract Rodent population cycles are observed in highly seasonal environments. As most rodents are herbivorous, the availability and the quality of their food resources vary greatly across seasons. Furthermore, it is well documented that herbivore densities have a measurable effect on vegetation and, conversely, that vegetation dynamics can influence ...

Fraxinus excelsior in Europe: distribution, habitat, usage and threats [PDF]
Common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) is a medium-sized deciduous tree with large compound leaves that develop relatively late in spring. It flowers before leaf-buds burst and trees can carry male, female, or hermaphrodite flowers, or different combinations

Deer activity limits tree recruitment in woodland creation sites
Deer activity and browsing damage in woodland creation sites can be reduced through targeted management of structural attributes. Small, dense, structurally heterogeneous woodlands with low basal area are most vulnerable to deer impacts. To ensure continuous tree recruitment, localised deer activity should be minimised, while avoiding complete ...

High climatic niche stability across life stages in Swiss forest tree species
Do Swiss trees change their niche as they grow? Studying 43 species across Switzerland, we found that most don't! Juveniles and adults share similar climatic niches, with ontogenetic shifts being small and still seemingly unrelated to climate change.

D-МАННИТОЛ ИЗ FRAXINUS EXCELSIOR
The result of chemical study of the barks, fruits and leaves of Fraxinus excelsior L. are discussed in this article. The individual substance has been separated as crystallic form from the sum of alcholic extraction by column chromatography (neutral Al2O3). The chemical structure of this substance is С6H14O6 m.p. 175,0-176,0 °С, [α]D20+20 (c10, H2O).On
