Detailed analysis of the curvature bounce: background dynamics and imprints in the CMB

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2022
If the spatial sections of the Universe are positively curved, extrapolating the inflationary stage backward in time inevitably leads to a classical bounce.

Children's Strategy Choices on Complex Subtraction Problems: Individual Differences and Developmental Changes

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2018
We examined how children's strategy choices in solving complex subtraction problems are related to grade and to variations in problem complexity. In two studies, third- and fifth-grade children (N≈160 each study) solved multi-digit subtraction problems ...

Action and valence modulate choice and choice-induced preference change. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Choices are not only communicated via explicit actions but also passively through inaction. In this study we investigated how active or passive choice impacts upon the choice process itself as well as a preference change induced by choice.

Bone and Soft Tissue Neoplasms in Infants Versus Older Children: A Report From the Cancer in Young People in Canada Program

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Infant bone and soft tissue neoplasms present distinct clinical challenges and lack large‐scale data to inform treatment decisions. This study aims to characterize bone and soft tissue neoplasms in infants in Canada and to compare their outcomes with those of older pediatric patients.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Repairing process models with non-free-choice constructs based on token replay

open access: yes, 2022
A method of repairing process models with non-free-choice constructs is proposed based on logical Petri nets, aiming at the problem of low precision in the existing repair methods.

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.
