Discontinuous modelling of crack propagation in a gradient-enhanced continuum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
A numerical model for the description of the combined continuous/discontinuous failure in a regularised strain-softening continuum is proposed. The continuum is regularised through the introduction of gradient terms into the constitutive equations.

Relativistic Expansion of Magnetic Loops at the Self-similar Stage II: Magnetized outflows interacting with the ambient plasma

open access: yes, 2011
We obtained self-similar solutions of relativistically expanding magnetic loops by assuming axisymmetry and a purely radial flow. The stellar rotation and the magnetic fields in the ambient plasma are neglected.

Optimal partitions for Robin Laplacian eigenvalues

open access: yes, 2018
We prove the existence of an optimal partition for the multiphase shape optimization problem which consists in minimizing the sum of the first Robin Laplacian eigenvalue of $k$ mutually disjoint {\it open} sets which have a $\mathcal H ^ {d-1}$-countably

Anisotropic Diffusion in Mesh-Free Numerical Magnetohydrodynamics

open access: yes, 2016
We extend recently-developed mesh-free Lagrangian methods for numerical magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) to arbitrary anisotropic diffusion equations, including: passive scalar diffusion, Spitzer-Braginskii conduction and viscosity, cosmic ray diffusion ...

Enhanced Trapping with an Optimized Graphene‐Based Bowtie Plasmonic Nanotweezer: Design, Analysis, and Bioanalytical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
A graphene‐based bowtie plasmonic nanotweezer is designed and optimized using particle swarm optimization and transfer matrix analysis. The structure achieves strong field confinement, delivering trapping forces up to 6 nN W−1 for 10 nm bioparticles with sixfold lower power requirements than conventional designs.

Relations between positivity, localization and degrees of freedom: the Weinberg-Witten theorem and the van Dam-Veltman-Zakharov discontinuity

open access: yes, 2017
The problem of accounting for the quantum degrees of freedom in passing from massive higher-spin potentials to massless ones and its inverse, the "fattening" of massless tensor potentials of helicity $\pm h$ to their massive $s = |h|$ counterparts, are ...

Learning Highly Dynamic Skills Transition for Quadruped Jumping Through Constrained Space

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A quadruped robot masters dynamic jumps through constrained spaces with animal‐inspired moves and intelligent vision control. This hierarchical learning approach combines imitation of biological agility with real‐time trajectory planning. Although legged animals are capable of performing explosive motions while traversing confined spaces, replicating ...
