We describe a sketch-based system for modeling 3D shapes based on a new multi resolution shape representation we call a layered mesh. Like subdivision surfaces, layered meshes provide a multi resolution hierarchy of meshes. A key difference is that a layered mesh lets you edit the shape and structure of the mesh at any level of the hierarchy, through ...

We recognize gentleness in the literary figures that turned everything around them upside down without meaning to, including Prince Myshkin, the majority of characters in Kafka, in Melville, in the short stories of Tolstoy, little John Mohune in Moonfleet. These characters arrive from nowhere and with gentleness provoke violence and passion around them.

The geometry of ruled surfaces is highly relevant for freeform architectural design, owing to the fact that any negatively curved freeform shape can be approximated by a smooth union of ruled surface strips. This information is important for the efficient manufacturing of both skins and underconstructions.

Discontinuous free form deformations
12th Pacific Conference on Computer Graphics and Applications, 2004. PG 2004. Proceedings., 2004Contemporary deformation tools let designers modify the geometry of deformed models. This approach can be restrictive if the designer wants to incorporate holes or gaps into a model while deforming it into a different shape. This work presents a variant of FFD that would let the designer incorporate isoparametric discontinuities into the deformation ...

Today’s automobiles and household electrical appliances are being designed with complicated shapes and surfaces. Surfaces have been studied as an expanded form of curves for a long time. As the pioneers of studies on surface representations, Coons and Bezier can be referred. In 1964, Coons proposed the Coons surface[44] for surface representation. It is used to define surface shapes interactively in computers.

Continuous free form deformation
Computer Networks and ISDN Systems, 1997Abstract In this paper, we present a new free-form deformation model which uses 3D lattices as deformation tool. With this technique called CFFD, the deformation tool made of Bezier tetrahedral volumes can describe any 3D space subdivision. Furthermore, this model maintains the continuity of the surface of objects throughout the deformation.

Abstract In this work, the matching problem between two free-form parametric surfaces, S 0 (u, v) and S 1 (u, v) , has been considered in the context of a first stage of the metamorphosis process, which is defined as gradual and continuous transformation of one key shape into another.

The paper presents the first theory and practice for free-form conjugation design and extends the conventional conjugate tooth profiles to free-form tooth profiles. It presents a conjugation theory that offers a rigorous correspondence between a conjugate pair and the cutter profile or contact path, discovers the necessary and sufficient conditions for

Free-Form Comparative Education
Comparative Education Review, 1975IT IS PERHAPS especially appropriate in San Francisco where "everything is very much like Chop Suey" to address you on that characteristic of comparative education. I have always considered the elastic boundaries of the field to be an advantage, in that they allow freedom to cross traditional disciplinary boundaries, to seek information and seize ...
