Development and Characterization of the Performance of a Novel Machinability-Enhancing Additive for Powder Metallurgy Steels

open access: yesMetals
Although powder metallurgy (PM) is known as a near-net-shape fabrication process, a large number of PM parts need to be machined for dimensional conformance or to produce complex geometrical features that cannot be achieved through compaction.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Investigation of the Cutting Performance of Cutting Tools Coated With the Thermo-Reactive Diffusion (TRD) Technique

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
The life of cutting tools used in metal cutting operations is limited due to wear. Therefore, increasing wear resistance is of great importance for minimizing economic losses.

Advanced damage modelling of free machining steels

open access: yes, 2012
The current available damage models do not accurately predict effective plastic strain to failure in low triaxiality stress states. A damage model was developed for low triaxiality that is appropriate to hot rolling of steel. This work focuses on nucleation and growth of damage as well as the effect of the strain and stress path.

On the Influence of Antioxidants and Recycled MgO–C Source Material on the Mechanical Properties of Carbon‐Bonded Magnesia Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The presented study focuses on the fracture behaviour of carbon‐bonded magnesia MgO–C refractories, where environmentally friendly fructose, collagen and lignin serve as temporary binding agents. The partial substitution of the source material with recycled MgO–C reduces the fracture resistance, which can be counteracted by the additional introduction ...
