Transient Control of a Hydraulic Free Piston Engine
Volume 1: Aerial Vehicles; Aerospace Control; Alternative Energy; Automotive Control Systems; Battery Systems; Beams and Flexible Structures; Biologically-Inspired Control and its Applications; Bio-Medical and Bio-Mechanical Systems; Biomedical Robots and Rehab; Bipeds and Locomotion; Control Design Methods for Adv. Powertrain Systems and Components; Control of Adv. Combustion Engines, Building Energy Systems, Mechanical Systems; Control, Monitoring, and Energy Harvesting of Vibratory Systems, 2013The free piston engine (FPE) is a type of internal combustion engine (ICE) with no crankshaft, so that its piston motion is no longer constrained by mechanical linkages. The FPE has a high potential in terms of energy saving given its simple structure, high modularity and high efficiency.

Control of dual hydraulic free piston engine
International Journal of Vehicle Autonomous Systems, 2006A free piston engine, FPE, combines a combustion engine and a hydraulic pump in one compact component. The only moving part in the hydraulic FPE is the piston assembly containing combustion piston(s), piston rod and pump piston. The piston assembly moves during operation linearly back and forth between left and right extremes by means of the fuel ...

Optimization of a dual free piston Stirling engine
Applied Thermal Engineering, 2007This work relates the theoretical study of the dynamic behavior of a dual free-piston Stirling engine (DFPSE) coupled with an asynchronous linear alternator. This machine integrates one piston and two displacers placed in a symmetrical way compared to the piston to improve the stability of the machine.

Simulation of a Two-Stroke Free Piston Engine
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2004<div class="htmlview paragraph">The free piston internal combustion engine used in conjunction with a linear alternator offers an interesting choice for use in hybrid vehicles. The linear motion of the pistons is directly converted to electricity by the alternator, and the result is a compact and efficient energy converter that has only one ...

Regenerator Losses in a Free Piston Stirling Engine
2016Due to the need for alternative means that can be used to generate power with high efficiency and less harm to the environment, the free piston Stirling engine has emerged and research has been carried out to prove its relevance. This study is carried out in the thermal energy conversion unit, using solar energy to generate power.

Structural design of Stirling engine with free pistons
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2014Stirling engine is a device that converts thermal energy to mechanical work, which is mostly used to drive a generator of electricity. Advantage of Stirling engine is that it works with closed-cycle, where working medium is regularly cooled and heated, which acts on the working piston. This engine can be made in three modifications - alpha, beta, gamma.

SIMULATION OF A FREE-PISTON ENGINE WITH A DIGITAL COMPUTER
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1958<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">For the design of a given free-piston engine, each process must be analyzed with respect to the functioning of the engine. This thermodynamic analysis must then be augmented with a dynamic study of piston motion.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph">The purpose of the
