A Tubular PM Linear Generator With a Coreless Moving-Coil for Free-Piston Engines

IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 2019
Free-piston engine coupled with linear generator is a new kind of thermoelectric energy converter. It has been highly concerned due to its high efficiency and low emission in recent years. In this paper, a tubular moving-coil linear generator is developed for the application of free-piston engines. The two-dimensional finite-element model of the linear

Starting mode analysis of tubular-type linear generator for free-piston engine with dynamic characteristics

2007 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS), 2007
The free-piston engine system uses a linear motion of the piston. And the free-piston engine system can guarantee a high efficiency and reliability in the energy conversion process because of the absence of the mechanical motion conversion devices like a crankshaft, a connecting rod, etc.

Simulation and Experimental Validation of Equivalent Circuit Parameters and Core Loss in a Tubular Permanent Magnet Linear Generator for Free Piston Engine Applications

International Electric Machines and Drives Conference, 2019
Conventional generators in general refer to rotary generators. Linear generators on the other hand uses linear motion to convert it to electricity. This linear motion is available in different processes such as free piston engines, and sea waves.

Design and analysis of 5 kw class tubular type linear generator for free-piston engine

International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2011
This paper presents the development of a 5kw class tubular type linear generator. The two main characteristics of the generator, the back EMF and the cogging force, are calculated using the finite element method. To reduce the cogging force, the pole pitch modulation method and dummy teeth are adopted.

Starting of a free-piston linear engine-generator by mechanical resonance and rectangular current commutation

2008 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference, 2008
Starting a free-piston linear engine-generator (LG) involves reciprocating a freely moving piston-magnet-translator assembly between two oppositely placed engine cylinders for combustion to occur. The machine is operated as a brushless linear motor to produce the required motion.

Tubular Type Linear Generator Analysis for Free Piston External Combustion Engines

In recent years, Stirling Dish designs and applications for obtaining electrical energy from solar energy have attracted attention. In this system, electrical energy can be obtained directly without the need for an additional mechanical transformation. It can be provided by placing a linear generator in the free piston mechanism.
