Reflections on Free-Piston Stirling Engines, Part 2: Stable Operation

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1998
Abstract: In this paper a new linearization technique of the dynamic balance equations of a free-piston Stirling machine is developed. It takes into account the non-linear thermo-fluid-dynamic terms inherent in the machine, while keeping the linearity of the differential dynamic equations.

Dynamic analysis of a simplified free-piston Stirling engine

SIMULATION, 1980
Lumped-volume dynamic equations are derived using an energy-state formulation. This technique requires the writing of state functions for kinetic and poten tial energy. A Rayleigh dissipation function accounts for losses in the system. Using these functions, a Lagrangian is formed and the equations of motion for the system are derived.

Gas action effect of free piston Stirling engine

Energy Conversion and Management, 2016
Abstract Gas action effect of free piston Stirling engine (FPSE) is very important to solve the key problem of start-up and find the way to increase its efficiency. The gas force is a key force to free FPSE. In this paper, the gas action effect has been analyzed by the method of rotation vector decomposition. It is found that the gas forces of piston

Vibration absorber for a free piston stirling engine

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1986
A free piston Stirling engine has a hermetic vessel containing a displacer piston and a power piston coupled to each other and to the vessel by gas springs. An additional mass is coupled to the vessel by a gas spring which is tuned to the operating frequency of the engine geometrically.
