Feedforward-based free-space optical communication

Applied Optics, 2021
We propose to use 1-bit feedforward information at the free-space optical (FSO) receiver to improve its error performance. We concentrate upon M -ary pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) signaling and design an error-optimal PAM constellation for providing efficient 1-bit feedforward information to the receiver.

Free Space Optical Communications Link Budget Estimation

Lasers, Sources and Related Photonic Devices, 2010
This paper describes a new methodology of estimating the free space optical communications link budgets to be expected in conditions of severe turbulence. Comparisons will be given between theory and field measurements.

Free-Space Optical Communications

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2006
With recent successes of laboratory, inatmosphere, and space demonstrations of free-space optical communications, there is no doubt that the technology is ready for operational deployment. While these successes have shown that there are no laws of physics against such systems, their estimated system costs are still much too high for serious ...

Optical communication in free space

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
The success of free-space optical links operating indoors or in the atmosphere or deep space shows a good perspective of the technology. There is no doubt that free-space technology is ready for wide practical application. Optical links have several advantages in comparison with radio links, namely high transmission rates and high security.

Review on free space optical communication

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2023
Abstract Over a last few decennary free space optical communication (FSO) have become more interesting alternative to the radio frequency for communication. The FSO is emanating technic that have been found the applications in different place of shorter & longer distance communication.

Free Space Optical Communications (FSO)

2007 IEEE Avionics, Fiber-Optics and Photonics Technology Conference, 2007
Free space optical communications (FSO) is now common for point to point communications between fixed locations on land, and is also used for communication between moving platforms on land, on the surface of the sea, in air, and in space. Free space implies that it is not practical to use optical fiber to connect the points that need to communicate or ...

Free-space optical communication alignment system

SPIE Proceedings, 2016
Optical communication systems in free space require a coarse and fine alignment system to align the receiver and transmitter. In general a coarse alignment is not entirely accurate to transmit the laser beacon in the exact direction of the visible field of the camera.
