Coding for free space optical communications

LEOS 2008 - 21st Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2008
Free-space optical (FSO) systems that are robust in the presence of atmospheric turbulence are discussed in this invited paper: (i) coded-OFDM, (ii) coded MIMO concept, and (iii) raptor code based FSO systems.

Coherent Optical Free-Space Communications

Optical Amplifiers and Their Applications/Coherent Optical Technologies and Applications, 2006
The performance of coherent FSO systems operating within atmospheric are limited by turbulence. The performance statistics are computed from models for the induce index fluctuations, the second order Rytov perturbation method of solution to the stochastic wave equation and an extended form of the Huygens-Fresnel.

Adaptive optics for free space optical communication

MIMO Free-Space Optical Communication

2016
In this chapter, we study multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) free-space optical (FSO) communication systems degraded by atmospheric turbulence, absorption, scattering, diffraction, and misalignment. The employment of multiple transmit/receive apertures are studied as a means to enhance the reliability of FSO links by combating atmospheric turbulence
