Adaptive cooperation for free space optical communications
Telecommunication Systems, 2020In this paper, we propose a new Adaptive Cooperation (AC) protocol for Free Space Optical (FSO) communications. Two versions of the protocol are presented. The first protocol uses the Instantaneous Signal to Noise Ratio (ISNR) to activate the relay only when the corresponding instantaneous throughput is better than that of the direct link.

Optical communication in free space
SPIE Proceedings, 2008The success of free-space optical links operating indoors or in the atmosphere or deep space shows a good perspective of the technology. There is no doubt that free-space technology is ready for wide practical application. Optical links have several advantages in comparison with radio links, namely high transmission rates and high security.

Channel estimation for free-space optical communication
IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference, 2011Optical fade caused by atmospheric turbulence impairs the performance of optical communication through atmosphere. Adaptive techniques of signal detection, power control, and channel coding can be employed to reduce the degrading effect of this phenomenon. For implementation of these techniques, the knowledge of channel state is required.

A novel free-space optic communication
SPIE Proceedings, 2005In this paper, we introduce a novel method for free-space optic communication. Normally, the free-space optic communication is sensitive to atmospheric turbulence. In order to overcome the weakness, we utilize two differential modulation optical beams, which improve markedly the quality of free-space optic communication.
