Artificial Neural Network Utilization for FSO Link Performance Estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper describes FSO link performance prediction based on available meteorological data using different Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approaches. Several types of ANNs were compared and their performance were evaluated.

High‐fundamental‐mode output of 1064 nm vertical‐cavity surface‐emitting laser using double embedded antiresonant oxide islands

open access: yesInformation &Functional Materials, Volume 2, Issue 2, Page 118-129, June 2025.
A two‐junction 1064 nm VCSEL with double antiresonant oxide islands in the top DBR is designed to enhance fundamental transverse mode operation. By optimizing island count, aperture size, thickness, and position, it achieves 36.2 mW output power, 54.8% PCE, and a 33.06 GHz 3 dB bandwidth.

Assessment of Practical Satellite Quantum Key Distribution Architectures for Current and Near‐Future Missions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, Volume 43, Issue 3, Page 164-192, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT Quantum key distribution (QKD) allows the generation of cryptographic keys beyond the computational hardness paradigm and is befitting for secure data transmission requiring long‐term security. The communication distance of fiber‐based QKD, however, is limited to a few hundred kilometers due to the exponential scaling of signal attenuation ...

Review and Analysis of Digital Signal Processing Algorithms for Coherent Optical Satellite Links

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, Volume 43, Issue 3, Page 229-250, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT Coherent optical satellite links enable high‐throughput communication and high accuracy ranging to and between satellites. Due to the ever‐increasing demand for throughput, wavelength division multiplexing of polarization multiplexed optical signals is being considered as a solution to provide high‐speed optical satellite links.

Statistics of Received Power Time Series for Optical LEO Satellite Uplinks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, Volume 43, Issue 3, Page 251-263, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT In free‐space optical satellite communications, a transmitted optical signal is perturbed by pointing inaccuracies and through the atmosphere's index‐of‐refraction turbulence. This leads to signal fluctuations and power fading when detected by a receiver. Knowledge of these signal instability statistics is advantageous for the design of robust

Recovery Capabilities of Rateless Codes on Simulated Turbulent Terrestrial Free Space Optics Channel Model

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2013
Free Space Optics (FSO) links are affected by several impairments: optical turbulence, scattering, absorption, and pointing. In particular, atmospheric optical turbulence generates optical power fluctuations at the receiver that can degrade ...

Transient response analysis for DC-DC boost converter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
DC-DC Boost Converter and Hybrid Posicast Controller is developed and simulated using MATLAB Simulink software. DC-DC Boost converter has a very high overshoot and a very high settling time which produce oscillated output response.

Update on the German and Australasian Optical Ground Station Networks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, Volume 43, Issue 3, Page 147-163, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT Networks of ground stations designed to transmit and receive at visible and infra‐red wavelengths through the atmosphere offer an opportunity to provide on‐demand, high‐bandwidth, secure communications with spacecraft in Earth orbit and beyond. This work describes the operation and activities of current free space optical communications (FSOC)

Optimation Free Space Optic (FSO) Design with Kim Model Using Space Diversity

open access: yesJURNAL INFOTEL, 2019
The development of communication services in remote rural areas is difficult to use cable-based systems such as Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and FTTx. One solution to solve this problem is to use a wireless system such as radio communication. Free Space Optic (FSO) communication system is a better choice compared to radio communication because of the ...

Comparative Test of Novel Fluorescent Optical Antennas for LED‐ and Laser‐Based Optical Wireless Communications

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 13, May 5, 2025.
New fluorescent optical antennas are realized and tested for diverse Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) applications. The fluorescent concentrator slabs, based on different organic fluorophores, convert and convey the digital data conveyed through intensity modulation of incoming light toward a small‐area photodiode.
