Homogenisation of high-contrast brittle materials
This paper is an overview on some recent results concerning the variational analysis of static fracture in the so-called high-contrast brittle composite materials. The paper is divided into two main parts.

To maximize or not to maximize the free energy of glassy systems, !=? [PDF]
The static free energy of glassy systems can be expressed in terms of the Parisi order parameter function. When this function has a discontinuity, the location of the step is determined by maximizing the free energy.

On The Possible Mechanism Of Energy Dissipation In Shock-Wave Fronts Driven Ahead Of Coronal Mass Ejections [PDF]
Analysis of Mark 4 and LASCO C2, C3 coronagraph data shows that, at the distance $R \leq 6$ R$_\odot$ from the center of the Sun, the thickness of a CME-generated shock-wave front ($\delta_F$) may be of order of the proton mean free path. This means that

Thermodynamics and phase transitions of non-linear charged black hole in AdS spacetime
We have derived a non-linear charged black hole solution, in the AdS spacetime, which behaves asymptotically like the RN-AdS black hole but at the short distances like a dS geometry. Thus, the black hole is regular.

On the Detection of Fracture within Vibrating Beams Traversed by a Moving Force
In this work, we examine the influence of a crack in the span of a beam as it is being traversed by a point force with constant velocity. This problem presents two types of discontinuities: one spatial, where the crack is modelled as a discontinuity in ...

On the vDVZ Discontinuity in Massive Conformal Gravity
By taking the massless limit of linearized massive conformal gravity coupled to a source, we show that the theory is free from the vDVZ discontinuity. This result is confirmed when we take the massless limit of the gravitational potential of the theory ...

The dynamic behavior of a partially debonded Ferry Ro-Ro’s sandwich car deck is investigated by using commercial finite element software ABAQUS. Debonding in the car deck model is estimated by comparing the dynamic responses of the fully intact and ...

Agenesis of the dorsal mesentery presenting in an adolescent
Agenesis of the dorsal mesentery is a rare occurrence that usually presents in children. It is associated with proximal small bowel malrotation as well as high jejunal atresia with discontinuity of the small bowel.

Ghost free mimetic massive gravity
The mass of the graviton can be generated using a Brout-Englert-Higgs mechanism with four scalar fields. We show that when one of these fields is costrained as in mimetic gravity, the massive gravity obtained is ghost free and consistent.
