Mixed-mode oscillations with multiple time scales

open access: yes, 2010
Mixed-mode oscillations (MMOs) are trajectories of a dynamical system in which there is an alternation between oscillations of distinct large and small amplitudes.

PLCζ Induced Ca2+ Oscillations in Mouse Eggs Involve a Positive Feedback Cycle of Ca2+ Induced InsP3 Formation From Cytoplasmic PIP2

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2018
Egg activation at fertilization in mammalian eggs is caused by a series of transient increases in the cytosolic free Ca2+ concentration, referred to as Ca2+ oscillations. It is widely accepted that these Ca2+ oscillations are initiated by a sperm derived

Free oscillations in nonlinear oscillating circuit

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1967
An oscillating circuit with nonlinear capacitance in a free oscillating regime is examined. Assuming that the circuit has small losses and high Q factor, a formula is obtained for the envelope of the free oscillations which differs from the exponential. The greater the influence of the nonlinear element the greater is this difference.

Glissile Interphase Boundaries Enable Collective Phase Switching in Epitaxial Polar Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A triple point is identified in the phase diagram of low‐symmetry epitaxial BiFeO3 thin film along with an extended regime of phase competition associated with a flattened energy landscape. The electromechanical response is shown to be governed by correlated interphase‐boundary motion, including scale‐free avalanche dynamics characteristic of systems ...

Quantum oscillations and high carrier mobility in the delafossite PdCoO2

open access: yes, 2012
We present de Haas-van Alphen and resistivity data on single crystals of the delafossite PdCoO2. At 295 K we measure an in-plane resistivity of 2.6 μΩcm, making PdCoO2 the most conductive oxide known.

Powering Nanocrystal‐Based Heat Engines With Light‐Emitting Metasurfaces That Influence Their Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurfaces and other structured photonic environments can dramatically modify the absorption and/or light emission of semiconductors. However, the consequences of these changes on the temperature of the system are not well understood. The authors address this problem for colloidal nanocrystals and leverage their findings to convert light into ...

Toward Fast Proton Shuttling in Acidic Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review establishes proton transfer dynamics as a descriptor governing acidic OER activity, moving beyond the kinetic constraints derived from the proton coupled electron transfer. We discuss how deprotonation governs classical mechanisms, including adsorbate evolution mechanism (AEM), lattice oxygen mechanism (LOM) and oxide path mechanism (OPM ...

Oscillatory glucose flux in INS 1 pancreatic beta cells: A self-referencing microbiosensor study

open access: yes, 2011
Signaling and insulin secretion in beta cells have been reported to demonstrate oscillatory modes, with abnormal oscillations associated with type 2 diabetes.

Bacterial‐Electrochemical Platform Utilizing a MXene‐Peptide Hydrogel

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A peptide‐based fibrillar hydrogel incorporating MXene facilitates efficient electron delivery to intracellular recombinant [FeFe]‐hydrogenase enzyme in E. coli, enabling sustained bioelectrochemical H2 production without engineered exoelectrogenicity pathways.

Analytical description of chaotic oscillations in a toroidal thermosyphon

open access: yes, 1995
Multiple time scales and singular perturbation techniques are used to describe the ordinary and the chaotic oscillations due to natural convection in a fluid loop subject to a known external heat flux. The turbulent flow in the loop is modelled using the
