Reconciling Granular Hydrogel Microstructure and Mechanics via a Temporary Thermo‐Responsive and Cell‐Invadable Matrix

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Thermo‐responsive granular hydrogels (TRGHs), composed of microparticles and an interstitial matrix, exhibit thermo‐responsive mechanical properties and allow cell infiltration. This system effectively addresses the conventional compromise between mechanical strength and porosity observed in granular hydrogels.

Influence of shear reinforcement detailing on the shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Alternative shear reinforcement layouts that do not fully enclose the longitudinal tensile reinforcement can significantly improve the constructability of reinforced concrete (RC) members. However, their influence on shear transfer mechanisms is not yet fully understood. To address this gap, an experimental program comprising 10 shear tests on

Biodiesel Production from Hevea brasiliensis Seeds: A Systematic Review

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Chemistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Hevea brasiliensis (HB) species, also called the rubber tree, is currently cultivated worldwide for the extraction of latex, an input for rubber production. In addition, its seeds currently have few productive applications, despite their high oil content.

In situ mapping of iron oxidation in laminar metal fuel flames using X‐ray absorption spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
For the first time an iron metal flame has been mapped by in situ X‐ray absorption spectroscopy. Strong gradients in oxidation state and phase composition across the metallic core and the flame front were found with FeO peaking at the visible flame front and Fe3O4 forming further beyond.Metal fuels such as iron are promising carbon‐free energy carriers

4D imaging of a porous carbonate rock under triaxial loading: quantitative correlation between local porosity and strain

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
A 4D X‐ray computed tomography experimental campaign was carried out on a porous carbonate rock to investigate the link between initial porosity and deformation modes. This paper presents the experiment and the methods used to explore this relationship. The study of the mechanical behaviour of carbonate rocks has benefited from the evolution of ...

Metabarcoding replicate detection frequency tracks ddPCR copy number for cod and herring eDNA in ancient marine sediments

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Detecting environmental DNA (eDNA) from rare or low‐abundance aquatic species remains a major challenge, particularly when it is highly degraded, present at low concentrations, and dominated by DNA from non‐target taxa. These challenges are further amplified in sedimentary ancient DNA (sedaDNA) studies, where thousands of years can degrade ...

Extracellular fluid viscosity influences the mechanics and migration of MDA‐MB‐231 cells in a macromolecule‐dependent manner

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Macromolecule‐dependent increases in extracellular fluid viscosity alter cell phenotype. These distinct macromolecules create different extracellular environments that modulate cell morphology and mechanoprotein expression, migration and invasion capacity, and cellular mechanical properties.
