Effect of aspect ratio on frequency and power generation of a free-piston linear generator
, 2021The thermal efficiency (40–50%) of free-piston linear generator (FPLG) engines is widely known to be higher than the conventional reciprocating engine (CRE) (30–40%). Future technology to optimise FPLG engine combustion necessitates the identification of

Piston-retardation insert in a free-piston compressor
AIAA Journal, 1970The complete solution, expressed in terms of Eqs. (7, 10> and 11), gives the temperature profile along the fin in terms of the radiation-conduction parameter e, convection parameter (Biot modulus) X, environment temperature Oe, and fin geometry v.

Piston Ring Friction Losses in a Free Piston Engine with Variable Frequency
SAE International Journal of Engines, 2021<div>Free piston linear engines (FPLE) directly convert the piston reciprocating motion into electricity using an integrated linear alternator. Unlike conventional crankshaft engines, the FPLE’s motion is variable and is not restricted between the predefined or fixed dead centers.

Friction characteristics of piston rings in a free-piston engine generator
International Journal of Engine Research, 2016Free-piston engine generator is a new alternative to traditional reciprocating engine, which moves without mechanical restriction of crankshaft system. This article investigated numerically the friction characteristics of piston rings in a free-piston diesel engine generator by adopting coupled models of dynamic and friction.

ASME 2009 Dynamic Systems and Control Conference, Volume 2, 2009
A dynamic model of a free liquid piston that exploits piston geometry to produce a high inertance was developed for use in a free piston engine compressor. It is shown that for the size scale targeted, advantageous piston dynamics can be achieved with a reduced piston mass compared to a rigid piston design.

Study on Piston Motion Control Strategy of Single Piston Hydraulic Free-piston Engine
2012 Second International Conference on Intelligent System Design and Engineering Application, 2012This paper investigates the piston motion control strategies of a single piston hydraulic free-piston diesel engine, which is intended to be a power supply for hydraulic propulsion systems. The Cycle fuel mass is determined by engine displacement and load.

SUPERCHARGING in the FREE-PISTON CYCLE
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1959<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">THE RESULTS of analytical studies backed by actual tests concerning the use of supercharging in the free-piston cycle are reviewed. They indicate that, under conditions of increased cycle pressure ratio and of adequate cooling of the air, supercharging has power possibilities far
