Study on Piston Motion Control Strategy of Single Piston Hydraulic Free-piston Engine
2012 Second International Conference on Intelligent System Design and Engineering Application, 2012This paper investigates the piston motion control strategies of a single piston hydraulic free-piston diesel engine, which is intended to be a power supply for hydraulic propulsion systems. The Cycle fuel mass is determined by engine displacement and load.

Design of a Free-Piston Engine-Pump
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1992<div class="htmlview paragraph">Off-highway mining and construction equipment typically converts all the power output of the engine to hydraulic power, with this power then used to perform the earth-moving operations, and also to propel the vehicle. This equipment presents significant opportunities for a new type of powerplant designed to deliver

Control of dual hydraulic free piston engine
International Journal of Vehicle Autonomous Systems, 2006A free piston engine, FPE, combines a combustion engine and a hydraulic pump in one compact component. The only moving part in the hydraulic FPE is the piston assembly containing combustion piston(s), piston rod and pump piston. The piston assembly moves during operation linearly back and forth between left and right extremes by means of the fuel ...

Stability analysis of free piston Stirling engines
The European Physical Journal Applied Physics, 2013This paper presents a stability analysis of a free piston Stirling engine. The model and the detailed calculation of pressures losses are exposed. Stability of the machine is studied by the observation of the eigenvalues of the model matrix. Model validation based on the comparison with NASA experimental results is described.

Free Piston Engine Its Application and Optimization
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2000<div class="htmlview paragraph">A free piston internal combustion engine coupled with a linear generator is proposed for hybrid vehicle application. The engine works on CI two-stroke cycle with direct fuel injection. Uniflow was chosen for an efficient scavenge process.

Stability analysis of hydraulic free piston engine
Applied Energy, 2015Abstract Based on the piston force analysis of the hydraulic free piston diesel engine, a nonlinear vibration model is established. Then the solution of the nonlinear vibration model is given by the generalized harmonic KBM method. The reasons that affect the constant amplitude of the nonlinear vibration model are analyzed according to the expression

Hydraulic free piston engine — Challenge for control
1999 European Control Conference (ECC), 1999A hydraulic free piston engine, HFPE, combines a diesel engine and a hydraulic pump into one compact component. In practical view there is only one linearly moving part in the HFPE, the piston assembly, which contains combustion and hydraulic pistons and piston rod.

Linear Dynamics of Free-Piston Stirling Engines
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Power and Process Engineering, 1985The free-piston Stirling engine (FPSE) is a heat driven mechanical oscillator from which power can be extracted. Linear dynamics is applied here in order to obtain: a stability criterion, a means for determining the oscillation frequency, relative amplitudes of the dynamic components, effects of friction on starting and the locus of the roots of the ...

Hopf Instabilities in Free Piston Stirling Engines
Journal of Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics, 2013Free piston Stirling engines (FPSEs) are examples of closed cycle regenerative engines, which can be used to convert thermal energy into mechanical energy. These engines are multidegree-of-freedom dynamical systems, which are designed to operate in a periodic manner. Traditionally, for design purposes, linear models are used and the associated periodic
