Bioinspired Passive Flow Routing to Mitigate Thrombosis in Prosthetic Heart Valves and Cardiovascular Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bioinspired passive flow routing mitigates thrombosis in cardiovascular devices by redirecting a small fraction of forward flow into stagnation‐prone regions. Inspired by avian alula and aircraft slat mechanisms, strategically placed routing channels restore washout around mechanical heart valves, reducing low‐shear exposure by four orders of magnitude

Effect of fuel injection rate shapes on mixture formation and combustion characteristic in a free-piston diesel engine generator

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2018
The free-piston engine generator is a new power machinery, which removes the crank-shaft mechanism. This article aims to study the impact of different injection rate shapes (left triangle, rectangle, and right triangle) on the free-piston engine ...

Kresling Origami‐Based Metamaterial Robot for Dynamic Electromagnetic Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A reconfigurable metamaterial system integrates deformable origami units with high‐permittivity ceramic plates. Pneumatic switching between structural states alters local resonance conditions, enabling dynamic radar stealth and adaptive microwave reflection for mobile communication.

Absorption of Broadband Low‐Frequency Sound Beyond the Thermodynamics Limit: An Acoustic Resonator With Magnetic Bearing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a magnetic‐bearing acoustic resonator that overcomes the thermodynamics limit of sound absorption. By introducing tunable negative stiffness, it achieves broadband low‐frequency absorption within a compact cavity, far exceeding the performance achievable by classic mass‐tuned designs.

Linear Generator for a Free Piston Stirling Engine [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 2014
In this paper we present some aspects about the design of a Stirling engine driven linear generator. There are summarised the main steps of the magnetic and electric calculations with application to a particular case of a cogeneration plant bassed on ...

Resonant Combustion Start Considering Potential Energy of Free-Piston Engine Generator

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Free-piston engine generators without a crank mechanism are expected to be used in series hybrid vehicles because of their lower losses. The series hybrid system requires a low starting thrust because the engine frequently starts depending on the battery

Improved Direct Ink Writing of Liquid Metal Foams via Liquid Additives

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
The ability to pattern liquid metal is useful for making soft electrical and thermal devices. Dispensing liquid metal from a nozzle naturally results in the formation of spheroidal droplets, making direct‐write printing challenging. Liquid metal foams containing pockets of air can extrude as filaments, albeit inconsistently.

Hydrogen Utilization in Free Piston Engines: A Performance Investigation [PDF]

open access: yesHydrogen, Fuel Cell & Energy Storage
This paper presents a dynamic analysis of a free-piston engine (FPE) using hydrogen gas as the working fluid for the first time. Initially, the governing dynamic equations of the FPE are derived.

Electrolyte Confinement Enables a Continuous Transition From Battery‐Like to Capacitor‐Like Na+ Storage via Solvent Co‐Intercalation

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Layered titanates with expanded interlayer galleries reveal how nanoconfinement and electrolyte solvation control Na+ storage kinetics. In diglyme electrolyte, solvent co‐intercalation and strongly reduced interfacial impedance enable increasingly capacitor‐like behavior with increasing interlayer spacing, whereas carbonate electrolytes form resistive ...
