Oxygen free radical scavenger properties of dehydroepiandrosterone
Cell Biochemistry and Function, 1998The microsomes from dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)-supplemented animals are good hydroxyl radical scavengers, as demonstrated through electron spin resonance and deoxyribose degradation. The ability of DHEA-supplemented microsomes to react with superoxide radical was also demonstrated through the inhibition of nitroblue-tetrazolium reduction determined ...

Free radical scavenging Activity :
DIU Journal of Health and Life Sciences, 2014The present study was aimed at investigating the chemical profiles of the methanolic extract of leaves of Centella asiatica as well as to assess its antioxidative activity. In this study, a methanolic extract (50 g/L) was obtained by infusion followed by cold maceration for 24 h.

New treatment of free-radical scavenger in adrenoleukodystrophy
Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics, 2011Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is an X-linked disorder and characterized by the accumulation of saturated very long-chain fatty acids. Treatment is still unsatisfactory. Our objective is to report on the effect of the free-radical scavenger, edaravone, in a patient with ALD.The patient was given edaravone intravenously twice. D-ROM in cerebral spinal fluid

Salvage of skeletal muscle with free radical scavengers
Journal of Vascular Surgery, 1987Extensive skeletal muscle necrosis may occur after prolonged ischemia to the lower extremity, with serious consequences both locally and systemically. The extent of necrosis is a combination of cellular damage that occurs during both the period of ischemia and the period of reperfusion.

Free radical chemistry is characterized by an unregulated chain reaction of sequential oxidations and reductions that can rapidly amplify the concentration of reactive radicals. The free radical is defined by the occurrence of an unpaired electron in an organic molecule or metal ion (Halliwell & Gutteridge, 1989).

Inorganic Nanoparticles as Free Radical Scavengers
2021Inorganic nanoparticles have received special attention in recent years, mainly due to the interesting electronic properties of transition metals. Inorganic nanoparticles have redox, optical and magnetic properties that allow them to function as therapeutic agents and as diagnostic tools, leading to a theranostic approach of bimedical applications.

Oxygen Free Radicals and Radical Scavengers in Neurology
1990Free radicals have become fashionable in recent years. Hundreds of articles and many regional and national meetings have been devoted to them. The first international symposium on free radicals will take place this year in Vienna. Free radicals seem to be involved in one way or another in many diseases, such as cancer, ischemia, circulatory shock ...

Indole-3-carbinol as a scavenger of free radicals
IUBMB Life, 1996The ability of indole-3-carbinol (indole-3-methanol) to trap a metastable synthetic-free radical is presented. Indole-3-carbinol is capable of acting as a scavenger of free radicals in an in vitro system. The presence of indole-3-carbinol determines the disappearance of the free radicals, the reaction being time- and concentration-dependent.

Combination of Treatment with Perfluorochemicals and Free Radical Scavengers
Biomaterials, Artificial Cells and Immobilization Biotechnology, 1992P-cyclohexylmorpholine, given as oxygen carrier of second generation, was tested in two experimental models: the ischemic intestine and the lung under hyperbaric oxygen condition. In both instances in separated groups either alpha-tocopherol or allopurinol was additionally given as oxygen free radical scavenger.

Is Caffeine a Good Scavenger of Oxygenated Free Radicals?
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2011The reactions of caffeine (CAF) with different reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been studied using density functional theory. Five mechanisms of reaction have been considered, namely, radical adduct formation (RAF), hydrogen atom transfer (HAT), single electron transfer (SET), sequential electron proton transfer (SEPT), and proton coupled electron ...
