A Free Wake Linear Inflow Model Extraction Procedure for Rotorcraft Analysis

Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 73rd Annual Forum, 2017
Linearized inflow models have been used to represent dynamic wake effects for control law development and flight dynamics simulation of conventional main rotor/tail rotor helicopters. For advanced rotorcraft configurations based on compound-coaxial and multi-rotor distributed propulsion, rotor-on-rotor and rotor-on-wing interactions lead to a ...

Improved Free Vortex Wake Models Of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines

34th Wind Energy Symposium, 2016
Floating offshore wind turbines offer significant advantages compared to onshore and near-shore wind turbines in terms of their ability to be located in deep waters. However, due to the motion of floating platforms in response to wind and wave loading, the aerodynamics are substantially more complex.

Validation Of A Free-Vortex Wake Model For Wind Turbines In Yawed Flow

44th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2006
A time-accurate free-vortex wake model has been used to predict the skewed wake geometry behind an upwind wind turbine in yawed flow over a range of yaw angles and tip speed ratios. The predicted tip vortex positions compared well with flow visualization measurements of the tip vortex positions found in the experiments.

Analytical Linearization of a State-Space Free Vortex Wake Model

Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 80th Annual Forum
This paper presents the development and application of analytical linearization of a State-Space Free Vortex Wake Model. Previous work developed a state-space free wake model that could be numerically linearized via finite differences into a Linear Time Periodic (LTP) system, but the numerical linearization process was computationally expensive.

Coupled CFD/CSD Simulations of Helicopter Rotors with a Free Wake Model

52nd Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 2014
A Computational Fluid Dynamics/Computational Structural Dynamics (CFD/CSD) coupling technique is used to analyze the four-bladed UH-60A and Bell 427 main rotors, and the results are compared to flight test data. The unstructured Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) solver UNCLE was coupled to DYMORE 2 by means of an automated script.

Modeling the Effect of Initial And Free-Stream Conditions on Circular Wakes

1992
The cascade-transport model combines the isotropic turbulent cascade with transport and production terms based on a spectral distribution of the eddy viscosity. Thus, the turbulence energy spectrum can be modeled in shear flows. Containing both spatial and spectral information, the model could be a crude approximation to the wavelet- transformed ...
