Sea Ice Classification During Freeze-Up Conditions With Multifrequency Scatterometer Data
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2013Helicopter-borne radar backscatter measurements are analyzed with respect to a multifrequency classification approach of sea ice. Measurements were carried out over the Arctic Ocean during August and September 2007 and represented unusually warm freeze-up conditions.

Numerical Simulation of Surface and Suspended Freeze-Up Ice Discharges
Impacts of Global Climate Change, 2005In this paper, a numerical model based on a two-layer ice transport formulation for surface and suspended ice runs for thermal-ice variation along the river during freezeup is presented and validated with an analytical solution and field data from Peace River.

Laboratory Observations of Frazil Ice Accumulation during Freeze-Up Stage
Journal of Hydraulic EngineeringA series of experiments was conducted using a laboratory flume within the University of Ottawa cold room to measure accumulation of frazil ice and ice jamming for open channel flows over various bed materials and different water depths. The water surface level was monitored using four ultrasonic devices mounted above the experimental flume, while the ...

Monitoring the freeze-up and ice cover progression of the Slave River
Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 2015River ice is an important component to maintain traditional and cultural lifestyles for the peoples along the Slave River in the Northwest Territories. During the winter a stable ice cover provides a vital transportation link to hunting, trapping, and fishing areas along the river.

Process of break-up and freeze-up along the Mackenzie River
1963Historical records of freeze-up and break-up and aerial observations of these events have been collected for the Mackenzie River between Great Slave Lake and the Beaufort Sea. These data have been studied with reference to the progress of ice formation and disintegration, the effects of break-up on flooding in the Mackenzie Delta, and the influence of ...
