Effect of particle size and freezing conditions on freeze-casted scaffold
Ceramics International, 2019Abstract Freeze casting is one of the emerging and novel manufacturing routes to fabricate porous scaffolds for various applications including orthopedic implants, drug delivery, energy storing devices etc. Thus, it becomes important to understand this process in a deeper sense.

Semisolid Casting of Short Freezing Range Alloys
Solid State Phenomena, 2019Semisolid casting and non-dendritic solidification of commercially pure tin (about 1 °C freezing range) and Zamak 3 alloy (about 10 °C freezing range) by a modified serpentine channel method were studied. It was shown that semisolid casting of very small freezing range metals with a non-dendritic structure was possible using this method.

Prototype capacitor produced by freeze tape-casting
2011 International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics (ISAF/PFM) and 2011 International Symposium on Piezoresponse Force Microscopy and Nanoscale Phenomena in Polar Materials, 2011In previous research freeze casting was used to construct ceramic-polymer composites in which the two phases are arranged in an electrically parallel configuration. By doing so, the composites exhibit dielectric constant (K) up to two orders of magnitude higher than that of composites with ceramic particles randomly dispersed in a polymer matrix.

Freeze casting of porous Ni–YSZ cermets
Materials Letters, 2007Abstract Dual-phase porous Ni–YSZ cermets were fabricated via the freeze casting of a ceramic/camphene slurry. After removing the frozen camphene via sublimation at room temperature, the green samples were sintered for 3 h in air at various temperatures, ranging from 1100 to 1350 °C, and then reduced in an Ar–5% H 2 atmosphere at 700 °C for 3 h. The

On controlling aerogel microstructure by freeze casting
Composites Part B: Engineering, 2019Abstract Aerogels, the lightest solids with practicable mechanical properties and functionality, are rapidly expanding the family members and applications these years. The reason can be attributed to the simple and green preparation by freeze casting (FC) method and the excellent properties of the resultant materials.

Novel oxide fiber composites by freeze casting
Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2014Abstract A freeze casting process with gelatine as gelling agent is presented to manufacture novel oxide fiber composites. The growth of ice crystals causes an in situ densification of the green matrix when the composite is frozen after the lamination of 2D-fabrics.

Structure–property-processing correlations in freeze-cast composite scaffolds
Acta Biomaterialia, 2013Surprisingly few reports have been published, to date, on the structure-property-processing correlations observed in freeze-cast materials directionally solidified from polymer solutions, or ceramic or metal slurries. The studies that exist focus on properties of sintered ceramics, that is materials whose structure was altered by further processing. In

Freeze‐Casting of Arbitrary‐Shaped Porous Ceramics
Advanced Engineering MaterialsPorous ceramics hold the great potential in the field such as bone tissue engineering, superinsulation material, and energy storage. However, it is quite challenging to fabricate them with arbitrary shape using conventional processes. Herein, a method to fabricate arbitrary‐shaped porous ceramic structure is presented by combining traditional freeze ...
