Fabrication of Quasicrystalline Scaffolds From the Al-Cu-Fe System by Dynamic Freeze-Casting
In this study, scaffolds whose main phase is an icosahedral quasicrystal (i-QC) were prepared for the first time by dynamic freeze-casting. Two different metal powders were used here, namely pure aluminum and quasicrystalline particles from the Al-Cu-Fe ...

Poly(vinyl alcohol) freeze casts with nano-additives as potential thermal insulators
Freeze-casting consists of freezing a liquid suspension (aqueous or other), followed by sublimation of the solidified state to the gas state under reduced pressure, and subsequent sintering of the remaining scaffold to consolidate and densify the struts ...

Mechanotransducing Organic Electrochemical Diode for Crosstalk‐Inhibited Artificial Skin
An innovative approach is presented to a stretchable mechanotransducing diode that unifies rectification and tactile‐sensing functionality. This approach enables to fabricate the diode that maintains a large rectification ratio (5 × 102) at a high operational frequency (100 Hz).

Microstructural evolution of paramagnetic materials by magnetic freeze casting
External magnetic fields were applied during the process of directional solidification to control the microstructural patterning of ceramic scaffolds formed by freezing colloidal mixtures of magnetic and paramagnetic particles. Under low magnetic fields (

Production and Characterization of a Silica-Alumina Membrane Using Novel Tubular Freeze-Cast Substrates [PDF]
Development of new ceramic membranes has recently grown due to its superior thermal and mechanical stability. An interesting approach to manufacture asymmetric membranes is the production of aligned pore structure by the freeze-casting method.

Freeze-cast Porous Chitosan Conduit for Peripheral Nerve Repair [PDF]
A novel freeze-cast porous chitosan conduit for peripheral nerve repair with highly-aligned, double layered porosity, which provides the ideal mechanical and chemical properties was designed, manufactured, and assessed in vivo. Efficacies of the conduit and the control inverted nerve autograft were evaluated in bridging 10-mm Lewis rat sciatic nerve ...

A mechanically tunable hydrogel composed of gelatin, chondroitin sulfate and laminin promotes angiogenesis in vitro without the supplement of growth factors. Endothelial cells morphogenesis was further enhanced by medium conditioned with bioactive glass 58S‐released ions (Ca and Si), thus offering a promising strategy to vascularize 3D tissue ...
