Freeze-drying and Radiation Protection
Nature, 1963GAMMA-IRRADIATION of Bacillus subtilis (N.C.T.C. 8236) spores revealed a marked protection if spores are first freeze-dried from certain carbohydrates. Freeze-drying from water did not produce a statistically significant effect. Protection was demonstrated after freeze-drying 0.1 ml.

Crumb rubber used in concrete to provide freeze–thaw protection (optimal particle size) [PDF]
This research has examined the optimum particle size of crumb rubber, used as an additive to concrete that would provide maximum freeze-thaw protection whilst minimising the compressive strength loss.

Experimental and numerical study on a freeze protection system for flat-plate solar collectors with silicone peroxide tubes [PDF]
The freeze protection is essential in the majority of solar thermal installations to prevent breakage of solar thermal collectors. Therefore, there are different methods of protection against freezing of flat plate solar thermal collectors, all of them ...

Protection of liposomes during dehydration or freezing
Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1990When liposomes are subjected to dehydration or freeze-thawing, vesicle fusion and/or leakage of vesicle contents can occur. The disaccharide, trehalose and the cryoprotectant, glycerol, are known to protect vesicle integrity during dehydration and freezing respectively.

Protective Action of Glycerol in the Freezing of Shigella sonnei
Nature, 1962GLYCEROL has been used as a protective agent for frozen bacteria1,2, Leptospirœ3, trypanosomes4, Toxoplosma gondii5, Entamoeba histolytica6, animal tissues7, bull spermatozoa4, and yeasts8. Although much work has been done on a variety of micro-organisms, little or no information is available regarding the protective action of glycerol on frozen ...
