Emission Characteristics of Energetic Electrons with Crescent-shaped Velocity Distributions

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Solar flares release magnetic energy through reconnection, accelerating electrons into nonthermal velocity distributions, including crescent-shaped electron populations. These energetic electron distributions are crucial in driving instabilities that can

Competitive exception learning using fuzzy frequency distributions [PDF]

open access: yes
A competitive exception learning algorithm for finding a non-linear mapping is proposed which puts the emphasis on the discovery of the important exceptions rather than the main rules.

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Ray Tracing of Whistler Mode Waves in Jupiter's Magnetosphere

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Previous statistical studies have described the distributions and properties of whistler‐mode waves in Jupiter's magnetosphere, but explaining these wave distributions requires modeling wave propagation from their generation near the magnetic equator. In

Estimating and forecasting instantaneous volatility through a duration model : An assessment based on VaR [PDF]

open access: yes
In order to forecast one-step ahead volatility, we calculated jump intensity by using estimated parameters of a duration model of price change. In this procedure, we do not assume any distribution on log-return. Although we do not make any distributional

Class IIa HDACs forced degradation allows resensitization of oxaliplatin‐resistant FBXW7‐mutated colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

Statistical learning dynamically shapes auditory perception

open access: yesnpj Science of Learning
Humans implicitly pick up on probabilities of stimuli and events, yet it remains unclear how statistical learning builds expectations that affect perception.

Interpretable Distribution Features with Maximum Testing Power

open access: yes, 2016
Two semimetrics on probability distributions are proposed, given as the sum of differences of expectations of analytic functions evaluated at spatial or frequency locations (i.e, features). The features are chosen so as to maximize the distinguishability

Effect of chemotherapy on passenger mutations in metastatic colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Changes in passenger mutation load and predicted immunotherapy response after chemotherapy treatment. Tumor cells rich with passenger mutations have increased sensitivity to chemotherapy. Correlation of passenger mutations with neoantigen load suggests highly mutated clones promote a more effective response to immunotherapy, and therefore, first‐line ...
