Enhancing latent palmprints using frequency domain analysis

open access: yesIntelligent Systems with Applications
Latent palmprints are integral to crime scene investigations, constituting a significant portion of encountered prints. They often suffer from poor ridge impressions, noise, and pronounced creases, setting them apart from other palmprint types.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Normalized Study of Three-Parameter System in the Time Domain and Frequency Domain

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2017
Three-parameter isolation system can be used to isolate microvibration for control moment gyroscopes. Normalized analytical model for three-parameter system in the time domain and frequency domain is proposed by using analytical method.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Seismic Frequency Domain Decomposition and its Applications

open access: yese-Journal of Nondestructive Testing
A novel system identification technique, Seismic Frequency Domain Decomposition (SFDD), has been developed and validated to estimate the dynamic properties of structures from Multiple-Input–Multiple-Output (MIMO) seismic data. SFDD extends classical FDD

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Color vision in the comb frequency domain

open access: yesBiological Research, 2003
In 1982, Horace Barlow considered the question of human trichromacy in the context of information theory: according to the Sampling Theorem, three types of receptors covering the visible spectrum (400- -700 nm) might be sufficient to reconstruct the ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Comparison of Frequency Domain and Time-Domain Methods for Aeromechanical Analysis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2016
Unsteady flow around an oscillating plate cascade and that through a single compressor rotor subject to vibration have been computationally studied, aimed at examining the predictive ability of two low fidelity frequency methods compared with a high ...
