Flexible Frequency Response Strategy with Smooth Rotor Speed Recovery of a DFIG-Based Wind Turbine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Grid frequency must be regulated in its nominal range to guarantee the stable operation of an electric power grid. Excessive grid frequency excursions result in load shedding, grid frequency instability, or even synchronous generator damage.

Determination of the Required Power Response of Inverters to Provide Fast Frequency Support in Power Systems with Low Synchronous Inertia

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The decommissioning of conventional power plants and the installation of inverter-based renewable energy technologies decrease the overall power system inertia, increasing the rate of change of frequency of a system (RoCoF). These expected high values of

2022 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting (PESGM) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Frequency stability assessment is one critical aspect of power system security assessment. Traditional N-1 screening method is based on the simulations of a few typical daily and seasonal operation scenarios.

Modal-based prediction of power system frequency response and frequency nadir

open access: yes
This paper introduces a novel approach for predicting system frequency response (SFR) and frequency nadir based on modal analysis. By decomposing the full system dynamic response, the method identifies dominant modes based on their participation in frequency behavior and derives a closed-form expression for the frequency trajectory.

Hybridization of battery with pico hydel for frequency regulation of microgrids using synchronverter control

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, 2022
Frequency regulation of autonomous microgrids with intermittent renewables is a tedious task, which requires additional support from energy storage systems (ESS).

The lodgepole × jack pine hybrid zone in Alberta, Canada: a stepping stone for the mountain pine beetle on its journey east across the boreal forest? [PDF]

open access: yes
Historical data show that outbreaks of the tree killing mountain pine beetle are often preceded by periods of drought. Global climate change impacts drought frequency and severity and is implicated in the range expansion of the mountain pine beetle into ...

Peakedness Effects in Near-Nadir Radar Observations of the Sea Surface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The simulation and interpretation of microwave sea radar return in the near-nadir region is still an issue in view of the limitations of the Geometrical Optics approximation and the multi-scale and non-Gaussian nature of the surface.
