SWARD PRODUCTIVITY WITHIN MICRO‐PATTERNS OF HEIGHT AND FREQUENCY OF DEFOLIATION
Grass and Forage Science, 1975ABSTRACTAn experiment is described in which 10 cutting treatments were applied to plots of perennial ryegrass. In 4 treatments the swards were cut uniformly using one of the following regimes: cut to 15 cm every 2 weeks (regime hf); cut to 15 cm every 6 weeks (hi); cut to 5 cm every 2 weeks (If); cut to 5 cm every 6 weeks (li).

Growth of lucerne in response to height and frequency of defoliation
The Journal of Agricultural Science, 19651. Lucerne growing in pots was defoliated once or at intervals of 3 weeks to either 1 or 5 in. Both height and frequency of cutting affected growth of tops and roots significantly; analysis of root weights also showed that these treatments had interacted. Cumulative yield of tops and leaf area per plant were linearly related.

THE FREQUENCY OF DEFOLIATION OF INDIVIDUAL TILLERS IN A SET‐STOCKED SWARD
Grass and Forage Science, 1966A method designed to study the defoliation of individual tillers in a set‐stocked sward is described. This was used on S23 ryegrass swards carrying 19 (medium‐stocked) and 30 (heavily‐stocked) sheep/ac.The tillers in the heavily‐stocked sward were defoliated, on average, every 7–8 days, and those in the medium‐stocked sward every 11–14 days.
